Closing the day with the mightiest stack was Pham Tien Dung who recently made headlines for his victory at the festival’s Super High Rollers event. Pham has been running red hot. He entered the day running fifth in chips then proceeded to deny numerous players including India’s Vaibhav Sharma on the bubble. Before that fateful moment, Pham shipped a massive double up off Sharma with pocket Kings over pocket Queens. Several hands later, both faced off again, this time on the bubble round that saw Sharma’s A♠ A♥ cracked by Pham’s A♦ Q♠ straight on the turn.
Once the money flowed, short stacks ran wild leading to fast fallouts. Among those benefiting was the day’s entering chip leader, Ngoc Anh Cao with multiple knockouts to his name. Cao was also the reason the final 8 was formed. He eliminated Singaporean pro Norbert Koh in 9th place. As the day progressed, another player finding his way to the top was India’s Ashish Munot who crushed Tran Ha Hung‘s hopes with pocket Aces dominating pocket Kings. Thailand pro Phachara Wongwichit kept up with the big stacks, even earning the chip lead briefly until his K-J suited gamble couldn’t get past pocket Queens to settle for 14th place.
At ten players remaining, and two busts needed to end Day 3, a hand came down between Nguyen Van Trung and Dang Dinh Tung aka Tung Red that resulted in the biggest pot of the day. On a queen-high turn board, Tung shoved with K-Q offsuit, Nguyen called with pocket Aces to double up over 2.76M. This gave him over 40% of the chips in play. Following that hand was considerably the most crushing defeat of the night. Feng Yu‘s A♣ A♠ and Koh’s A♥ A♦ went head to head preflop that ended with four spades on the board for a flush to Yu. Koh plunged to less than 3 BB.
