Main Event champion to be crowned today! High Rollers registration still open; Robert Kiss and Vo Manh Linh win trophies

The Asian Poker Tour will see a new MAIN EVENT champion crowned today at partner venue Vietnam Series of Poker (VSOP). Leading the way is Dao Minh Phu who has been unstoppable since his victory at the Superstar Challenge. For the past three days, he has topped the headlines having bagged a commanding stack at Day 1C, Day 2, and at Day 3. When they return to the felt today, Phu will bring in a massive 183 BB stack which is over a third of the chips in play.

Player Flag Chips BB
Dao Minh Phu Vietnam 4,585,000 183.4
Nguyen Vu Cuong Vietnam 1,725,000 69
Ankit Jajodia India 1,290,000 51.6
Tommy Nguyen Norway 1,170,000 46.8
Nguyen Quang Huy Vietnam 970,000 38.8
Dang Thanh Luong Vietnam 950,000 38
Vamerdino Magsakay Philippines 835,000 33.4
Nguyen Doan Trung Hieu Vietnam 460,000 18.4

The rest of the pack have a difficult climb ahead if they plan to chase the leader. In second rank is Nguyen Vu Cuong with 69 BB. Cuong is well remembered for having drawn the largest mystery bounty reward on the first draw at APT Vietnam Loyal. He went on to reach the final table in 8th place. In third rank is the lone player from India, Ankit Jajodia with 51.6 BB. Jajodia joined his first APT last month and landed four final tables including 5th place at the festival’s Championships Event. The hot run continued in this series with Jajodia already seen at two side event final tables prior to securing the coveted Main Event Final 8 seat. Right at Jajodia’s tail is Norway’s Tommy Nguyen with 46.8 BB. Tommy Nguyen already has one side event under his belt with a victory at the festival’s Pot Limit Omaha. During the bubble to the final table, he survived a shove with Ace-King over Ace-Queen to double up and earn his spot to today’s big race.

The bottom half of the ranking is led by well known local high roller Nguyen Quang Huy who placed 4th at the APT Main Event in Phu Quoc. Among his other deep runs was a victory at the APT Vietnam Loyal Mystery Bounty event. He carries in a 38.8 BB stack. Sitting on a similar stack is Danh Thanh Luong aka Victor EM who has cashed at a couple of past APT Main Events and finally reached the final table. At Day 3, Luong used up all of his time 5 banks in a hand against Pham Duy Anh. He dropped to 24 BB then quickly recovered. He later chunked down Chien Than to amass his big stack.

Filipino player Vamerdino Magsakay is ranked 7th. Magsakay came close to an APT Main Event victory in 2019 in the Philippines but fell short in 3rd place. At APT Phu Quoc, Magsakay was a wrecking ball, winning three High Roller events and the Player of the Series title on his first ever APT event outside of his home country. Magsakay built his massive stack by railing several players that included Jude Kumar and Le Minh Thuc (Day 1B chip leader). Down to the final nine players, Magsakay dropped below 10 BB when he called a big river raise bet by Phu who had a full house that beat his straight. Just before the final 8 was formed, Magsakay doubled up to 33.4 BB. Bringing up the rear is Nguyen Doan Trung Hieu aka Pickle Rick who was seen consistently chipping up throughout Day 3. He survived an all in at the final table of nine with pocket Aces getting full pay to bag up 18.4 BB.

The remaining players are all guaranteed to pocket VN₫ 248,300,000 (~US$ 10,585) but what they will be gunning for is the VN₫ 1,986,320,000 (~US$ 84,687) first prize.
