One of the day’s entering chip leaders, Choong Kian Weng continues to beef up his stack. He just sent Nguyen Duc Giao Linh out of the running. Nguyen shoved with Q J and Weng called with A K. The board bricked to send all the chips to Weng.


Tran Duc Phuong rails another

Tran Duc Phuong claimed his second victim of the day. It was a battle of the blinds situation with Tran holding Q Q and Zhang Xin with J J. No surprised arrived on the board.


Double knockout! Nguyen Thanh Nha busts Anh Nguyen and Ang Kai Boon

Three-way showdown

A huge smack down took place at Table 1 with Nguyen Thanh Nha delivering the axe to two players simultaneously. The action kicked off with a 15k raise by Thanh Nha, a shove by Anh Nguyen, Ang Kai Boon joined in, and action back to Thanh Nha who made it a three-way party with his big stack.

When the flop came 7 A 7, Anh jumped ahead and stayed up on the 3 turn, but with the river felting Q, it was a full house for Thanh Nha and he shipped it in climbing to 690K.


Late-comer Phong Lam falls hard to Minh Le

Phong Lam consoles himself with an avocado shake

The game had already begun and Phong Lam was one of the few still missing in action. When he finally arrived, he found himself in a hand against Minh Le that quickly sent him out of the field. We happened to catch it only at the end. The hole cards were already tabled, Long with K K, Le with K 4 the board 3 K 8 2 and the dealer felted the river Q for a flush to Le that heard a gasp from the others.


A double up and a few quick busts

First hand of the day saw Nguyen Hoanh Trang bank a double up. He shoved with A 7 and was up against Ang Kai Boon with 8 8. The board ran A 4 A K 3 for trips and the win.

The next shoves were not so successful. Ang Boon Seng had A J and Nguyen Thanh Nha had 8 8. The board dragged out Q 2 10 6 10 and Seng was out.

At a separate table, Suen Kam San was all in with K 8 and Son Putin with A 4, the board ran 9 4 5 9 5 sending Suen to the rail. Two hands after, another player fell at the same table. Tran Duc Phuong had 6 6 that held against Pham Bao’s A J.

Welcome to Day 3 of the Main Event. Majority of the players are now at their seats and the tournament director has announced “shuffle up and deal”. Good luck to all! Race to the Final 8 begins!


Race to the Final 8 begins in an hour

Day 3 of the Main Event will begin in just an hour’s time. This next round of eliminations will determine who will be part of the Final 8. There are currently 53 players remaining. The two largest stacks entering the day are Nguyen Van Dung with 787,000 and Choong Kian Weng 755,000. Between the two, Choong will be battling for his second APT Main Event title having won his first at APT Macau last year.

While the top prize is still a day away, we do like reminding players of how much they could pocket in this event. So here it is. The eventual winner will earn the lion’s share VND 1,636,720,000 first prize. The total prize pool amounted to VND 9,680,600,000 making it the largest Main Event pot seen in Vietnam. 

When we resume, blinds are 3000-6000 ante 1000. Average stack is 235,009. Total chips in play is 12,455,500. Minimum payout today is VND 44,390,000.
