One of the day’s entering big stacks was Japanese player Hajime Murase with over 200K. He now has 320K and continues to maintain his high rank. One of the hands that helped give him a boost was against Dinh Tien Thanh. From cutoff, Murase raised to 12k, Dinh defended from the big blind. At the flop 8♦ 8♠ 3♣, Murase fired 16k and was check-called. On the turn 8♥, he banged out 35k. This sent Dinh tanking then opted to fold. Dinh dropped to 190k.
Preflop raise war led to Dennis Ng all in and Pham Bao in the tank for a couple of minutes. He eventually called with 10♠ 10♥. Ng had A♣ K♥ overcards. The board came Q♦ A♦ 5♣ 8♣ 5♦ to grant the higher pair to Ng to double up to 195k. Bao dropped to 100K.
From hijack, Victor Chong raised to 6,500, got called by two players, then big blind Tran Huy Hoang aka Louis Tran jammed. Chong followed suit followed by two folds for a showdown. Tran K♠ K♣ was way ahead of Chong’s Q♠ Q♣, the board dropped a king to further improve Tran and held to ship it and eliminate Chong. Tran jumped to 381K.
Action folded to the button Shardul Parthasarathi who jammed with Q♦ 9♦, acting next was Ankit Jajodia who made the quick call with Q♣ Q♠. No other callers, the board offered no help to end the festival Main Event champion Parthasarathi then and there. Jajodia chipped up to 100k
Plenty of action at table 22 with raised pots seen at nearly every orbit. This one saw decorated APT Main Event champion Huy Pham three-bet shove his short stack. Initial raiser Dinh Duc Linh gave some protection by tank-shoving, Pham Tien Dung folded. Pham had K♠ Q♦, Dinh with 6♣ 6♠, the board ran 9♣ 10♠ K♥ 2♠ 8♦ for a double up and more to just under 50k.
Short stacked Dinh Van Tien on a rush with three consecutive pots raked in to climb to 130K. On the first pot, he four-bet shoved with A♦ J♦ and got called by a player with K♥ Q♠. The board dropped an ace and held for the double up. Next hand, Ankit Jajodia raised, Dinh three-bet, no callers. The third hand, utg Florencio Campomanes min-raised, Dinh called from the button. When the flop ran 3♣ 7♥ 4♣, Campomanes check-called Dinh’s 13k bet. On the A♣ turn, both checked to bring the river 8♦. Campomanes led out for 20k, Dinh snap-called with 8♣ 8♠ set to scoop up the pot.
Peter Kiem was in dire need of a double up with under 10 BB left. He shoved with A♠ K♠ and got one caller in Quang Nguyen with A♥ 7♦. The cards ran 5♠ 10♦ 9♠ 2♥ 3♠ for a flush to win the double. Kiem sits with around 40k.
The opening three rounds were not friendly on the day’s entering chip leader Keith Ong whose 285,800 stack is down significantly to around 100K. Same for Day 1A chip leader Nang Quang Nguyen who started with 255.8K and is now down to around 90K. Compared to the blinds, those stacks are still considered healthy.
Out of the 79 runners remaining, Korea’s Chang Yong Suk currently holds the top spot, boosting his stack during the opening three rounds from 94.6K to 410K. Here are some of the big stacks scattered around the room.
