APT Philippines 2022 Championships Event II

Dave “Spade” Erquiaga outflops Teoh, wins APT Championship

Level: 26 Blinds: 40,000/80,000 Ante: 80,000

On the second hand of the Heads-Up battle, Dave “Spade” Erquiaga (PHI) raised his D to 180k. William Teoh (MAS) 3-bet  to 340k and was called.

The flop came: J 4 2

Teoh (first to act in Heads-Up) checked. Erquiaga opened for 600k.

Teoh raised all-in, Erquiaga snap called.

Teoh showed J 8 for top pair while all in attendance got surprised to see that Erquiaga had 4 2 for bottom two-pair.

The Turn was 3 increasing Teoh’s out to a Jack, an Eight, or another Three.

However, the River card was A –fittingly a Spade for Dave.

Erquiaga, who secured a “true” Independent Chip Model (ICM) chop with his opponent, finally wins a trophy in these proceedings after coming in second in the Main Event and also second in one of the High-Roller events.

The win also locked the Player of the Series (POS) trophy for the Filipino.

Congratulations to Dave “Spade” Erquiaga for winning the Asian Poker Tour (APT) 2022 Philippines Championship!

Teoh busts Chang in 3rd, Heads-Up in a bit for the APT Championship

Level: 26 Blinds: 40,000/80,000 Ante: 80,000

William Teoh (MAS) raised from UTG but got greeted by an over the top shove by Chang Jae Lee (KOR). After asking for a count and going in the tank for a few moments, Teoh decided to call.

Chang showed 10 10 while Teoh had A 8.

Like in previous occasions, an Ace was immediately seen in the Window Card with the flop coming: A 9 (2d).

The Turn: 9 with Chang needing to hit a two-outer that never came as the River was 2 .

Chang–who was among the short-stacks coming into Day 3 of the tournament–ends his run at third for PhP1,977,500.00 (US$34,687.00).

It will now be down to Dave “Spade” Erquiaga (PHI) 7,065,000 in chips while Teoh brings 5,030,000 to the Heads-Up duel.

An ICM chop is being worked on presently.

William Teoh (MAS) will now battle Dave “Spade” Erquiaga (PHI) for the APT 2022 Philippines Championship

Gopez eliminated by Teoh in 4th

Level: 26 Blinds: 40,000/80,000 Ante: 80,000

The chip-leader coming into the Final 8 has busted out in an AIPF situation with Duroy Gopez (PHI) facing William Teoh (MAS).

Teoh showed K Q while Gopez smiled when he saw he was slightly ahead with A 3.

The flop gave an almost insurmountable lead to Teoh when it came: K Q 10 with Gopez needing a Jack or running cards.

The Turn was 9 and the River was 4 KOing Gopez but not before he receives PhP1,428,300.00 (U$25,054.00).

The last three are now guaranteed PhP1,977,500.00 (US$34,687.00).

Gopez triples up vs. Blinds

Level: 25 Blinds: 30,000/60,000 Ante: 60,000

Down to just 100k in chips, erstwhile chip-leader Duroy Gopez (PHI) shoved and was called by both Blinds in SB William Teoh (MAS) and Dave “Spade” Erquiaga (PHI).

The board went down J J 9 5 K as both the Blinds checked down.

Gopez showed A Q while Teoh had 7 6 while Erquiaga tabled A 2

Gopez triples up via having high cards.

Chang double up, Gopez gets hit anew

Level: 25 Blinds: 30,000/60,000 Ante: 60,000

With both Chang Jae Lee (KOR) and Duroy Gopez (PHI) badly needing a double-up being the short-stacks, they both locked horns in an AIPF situation with Chang tabling Q (10h} while Gopez showed he was ahead with A 8 .

However, the Flop gave Chang the lead when it came 10 7 4 with top pair.

The Turn: K while River did not produce the Ace Gopez needed as it was the 4 .

Gopez, the chip-leader heading into the Final 8, is now down to about 100k in chips (a little over one BB).

Teoh with yet another miracle double-up, hits Gopez

Level: 25 Blinds: 30,000/60,000 Ante: 60,000

William Teoh (MAS) opened UTG while SB Chang Jae Lee (KOR) went along for the ride. However, Duroy Gopez in the BB made a 3-bet and when the action swirled back to Teoh, he declared that he was all-in.

Gopez asked for a count, but the dealer hadn’t even finished when he said that he calls.

Teoh revealed his A K while Gopez shows Q Q . Once again, Teoh’s tournament life was in the balance.

The wondow card immediate showed the A and when the cards hit the table there was also a K and 4 that gave Teoh the lead with two-pair as the Malaysian rejoiced.

The Turn produced a J which now gave Gopez a redraw for a Straight.

The River, however, was 2 enabling Teoh to get more than a million in chips from the ledge of Gopez and now puts Teoh in solo second place in the chip counts with an estimated 4M.

Mike vs. Dave Round 2: Takayama loses, out in 5th

Level: 25 Blinds: 30,000/60,000 Ante: 60,000

Erstwhile chip-leader Duroy Gopez (PHI) opens from UTG but Mike Takayama (PHI) does a 3-bet shove. Action is then folded to Dave “Spade” Erquiaga (PHI) who makes a 4-bet isolation bet.

Gopez (the initial aggressor) tanks then folds what he claims to be a pocket pair.

Takayama is now on the short-end of the stick with A J against Erquiaga’s A Q.

The board reads: K K 9 K 4 and Takayama, a former APT Plyaer of the Series is elimiated by the soon-to-be-coronated POS for this series.

Takayama pockets PhP1,068,100.00 (US$18,735.00).

The Final Four is now guaranteed PhP1,428,300.00 (US$25,054.00).

Takayama rivers Erquiaga to stay alive

Level: 25 Blinds: 30,000/60,000 Ante: 60,000

In a weirdly played hand, Dave “Spade” Erquiaga (PHI) made a UTG raise but was 3-bet by short stacked Mike Takayama (OHI) from the SB.

Instead of going over the top, Erquiaga opted to just call.

The flop came: Q Q J

Mike checks, Dave bets almost m=Mike’s stack and leaves Takayama with just 10k in chips. Mike just calls.

Turn 7 and Dave puts Mike all-in and Mike naturally calls.

Dave shows 8 8 while Mike shows A K .

Mike spikes the A on the River for a badly needed double-up.

Eerquiaga is still the chip-leader.

Chang doubles-up in dominating fashion

Level: 24 Blinds: 25,000/50,000 Ante: 50,000

With action folded to the Blinds, Dave “Spade” Erquiaga (PHI) raised from the SB but got shoved on by Chang Jae Lee (KOR) in the BB. After asking for a count, Erquiaga calls.

Chang shows A K dominating Erquiaga’s A J .

The board of 8 6 2 6 7 ensured the double-up for the Korean off of the chip-leader, who is still atop the leaderboard despite the hit.

Level 24 comes to an end. We are now at Level 25 with the Blinds at 30,000/60,000 (60,000).
