Takayama Rivers Straight, Another Double Up

Level: 8 Blinds: 250-500 Ante: 50

With the flop 10 10 Q already boarded we saw Mike Takayama against a player with a larger stack move all-in putting the former’s tournament life at risk.

The showdown:

Takayama: K J
Opponent: K K

His opponent was ahead but Takayama had outs. The turn Q did not change anything but the river 9 did as it completed the Filipino’s straight and he doubles up to around 32,000. The opponent would be too depressed about his fate and got busted out three hands later.

Takayama doubles up

Level: 7 Blinds: 200-400 Ante: 50

Small blind player Mike Takayama went on an all in preflop showdown against the big blind player and doubled up with a nut flush. Takayama had A 8, his opponent had K Q. The board ran 9 9 3 Q 8.

Julian Hasse doubles up Magadan

Level: 7 Blinds: 200-400 Ante: 50

John Jay Magadan tangled in a pot against Julian Hasse that fared well for him with a happy double up. During the hand, both players saw a flop of 7 10 9. Hasse check-called Magadan’s bet of 1300 to see a turn card of 3. This time, Hasse changed gears and led out for 3975 which Magadan called. On the river of 6, Hasse again began the betting and slid out a 5000 chip which was for more than Magadan’s tournament life. Magadan debated then put all his chips in for a good call as he doubled up with his 7 7 set against Hasse’s K 9 top pair.

Jaeik Cho boots Martin Gonzales

Level: 7 Blinds: 200-400 Ante: 50

Action began with Jaeik Cho raising to 900, was called by the button player, then repopped to over 9000 by Martin Gonzales’s all in move at the small blind seat. Cho insta-called sending the button player tanking. Shortly after, he folded, and a showdown ensued with Cho ahead holding A A against Gonzales’ 7 5. With the board running K 6 9 4 7, Gonzales got the boot.

Serion check-raises Dours

Level: 7 Blinds: 200-400 Ante: 50

Ray Serion and Mike Takayama called a raise of 1300 by Romain Dours. At the flop of J 2 4, action was checked to Dours who banged out 2600 inducing a fold in Takayama but a check-raise to 10000 from Serion. After some hesitation, Dours opted to fold to Serion.

Tollefsen’s Tens Hurt Lei

Level: 7 Blinds: 200-400 Ante: 50

We caught up with a board of 4 7 10 6 K in Chee Hoong Lai’s and Henrik Tollefsen’s table. The two were embroiled in raising wars before the river came and on the last street the latter bet a big 6,400 into the already big pot.

With just around 18,000 behind, Lai considered his options very hard. If he made the call and lost, he’d be left with just around 11K.

Lai tanked and then tanked some more until one player called time on the Malaysian… Lai would eventually call and was shown the bad news: Toffelsen’s set of tens.

Morales on a Mission

Level: 7 Blinds: 200-400 Ante: 50

Renan Morales, Martin Gonzales (small blind) and Ray Serion (big blind) were in the pot when the flop K 2 9 arrived. All three players checked to bring the turn J, to which Serion bet 1,000 on.

Morales made the call as Gonzales got out of the way.

On the river 6, it was Morales who bet first– 3,000– and Serion snap called.

Bad news for Serion as his opponent showed a baby flush with 2 4. Morales climbs to over 80,000 after this hand.

Lai It Down

Level: 7 Blinds: 200-400 Ante: 50

Acting from under the gun, Chee Hoong Lai of Malaysia opened to 1,100 and saw Jose Drilon of the Philippines call from the button. Blinds got out of the way and the dealer tabled all jacks: J J J.

Both checked to bring the turn 3 and the Malaysian took a stab at it with 3,000.

That was enough to take down this small pot as Drilon folded but Lai appreciates any win at this point as he has around the average stack with over 23,000.

Renan Morales leads at the dinner break
