APT Philippines 2014 Main Event

“It is what it is”

Level: 5 Blinds: 100-200 Ante: 25

“It is what it is” declared Kevin Johnson who is fighting on in this main event but has one of the shortest stacks at this point of the tournament.

Against pocket tens with ace-jack he needed one overcard on the board to survive during a pre-flop all-in.

Flop Q Q 6 and turn 5 weren’t the cards he was looking for but an ace on the river extended his stay as he doubled up to around 4,000 plus.

Some 2-3 hands later, he was all-in pre-flop once again and was holding the cowboys. Unfortunately (or fortunately, not the bullets) he was against Fu-Bang Huang (Taiwan), who exactly the same hand. Johnson remains in contention but has a lot to work to do after a split pot and now with 4,800.

Level: 4 Blinds: 100-200 Ante:

Yoichi Uesugi landed a sweet double up when his Pocket Fours connected with the board of 7 2 4 5 9 against a player’s Pocket Kings.

Byung Il Park claims another pot

Level: 4 Blinds: 100-200 Ante:

Having just doubled up, cutoff player Byung il Park called a 600 raise and was heads up against a player in mid position. At the flop of 9 Q A, mp led out for 1100 and Park smooth-called. At the turn of 2, mp checked, Park checked. Then on the river of A, mp bet 4000, and Park once again copied his opponent and smooth-called. Park won the pot with his Q 10 flush against mp’s K Q.

Byung il Park doubles up

Level: 4 Blinds: 100-200 Ante:

Button player Byung il Park and a player in mid position were looking at a hefty 11,300 pot in the middle and a 9 5 6 2 turn board. Acting first, the mp player slid 3100 out and Park snap-called. Then on the river of Q, the mp player bet again, this time for 8425, Park moved all in with his remaining 9025 stack, was called, and took down the pot with his A Q top pair catch on the river. His opponent held X? K.

Kan Killing It

Level: 4 Blinds: 100-200 Ante:

We’re late coming to the table but what we know is that Raiden Kan of Hong Kong is now building a serious stack of chips.

By the time we reached the table he was tabling the ace-jack on a board that featured a king, queen an ace. He proceeded to scoop another nice pot and has now an estimated 58,000 in chips, easily one of the leaders this early in Day 1A.

Hong Ki Kim pushes out the ladies

Level: 3 Blinds: 75-150 Ante:

Catching the action on a full board of Q A 6 3 4, Hong Ki Kim banged out a 3500 bet into a 3700 pot. Kim’s opponent quickly folded whilst showing his Q Q set. Kim mucked and smiled while scooping in the pot.
