Day 1A ends with 50 players

Level: 8 Blinds: 250-500 Ante: 50

At the end of 8 levels of play, 50 out of 90 runners have advanced to Day 2 with two players from Guam leading the pack. Jim Bonanno is on top with 79,375 followed by the only female in the field, Annie Bordallo, with 75,175. Congratulations and goodnight! See you tomorrow for Day 1B.

Takayama gets lucky on Bordallo

Level: 8 Blinds: 250-500 Ante: 50

Mike Takayama and Annie Bordallo tangled once again before the close of day with Takayama getting a lucky double up. On a raised pot and a flop of 4 4 2, Takayama shoved all in and Bordallo snap-called. Takayama had A Q sorely behind Bordallo’s K K. The turn of 3 helped Takayama earn more outs with one of them, 5 landing on the river giving him a straight and an ecstatic double up.

Czar Ian Marcos triples up

Level: 8 Blinds: 250-500 Ante: 50

Action began with Jae Chang raising it up to 1200 in mid position followed by Czar Ian Marcos shoving with his 4100 short stack. Not seeing the all in, one of the players called Chang’s raise then tried to take it back when he realized the bet was higher. The TD was then consulted and by rule, the player was bound and had to lay out the 4100. Acting next was Chang who also made the call. The flop landed A 7 10, and both players checked. Then they also checked the turn of 4 and the river of J. Marcos won the pot and tripled up when he showed his K Q for a straight.

Annie Bordallo takes from Takayama

Level: 8 Blinds: 250-500 Ante: 50

Clearly looking like one of the chip leaders for the day, Annie Bordallo further upped her towers when she landed a set against Mike Takayama’s two pair. Bordallo had PEights and Takayama had A-2 on a board of 8-4-3-A-2.

Smooth-calling Suzuki

Level: 8 Blinds: 250-500 Ante: 50

After getting moved to a new table, Nori Suzuki quickly went to work to up his stack. In a hand that we caught at the turn of 8 5 8 A, Suzuki led out for 2500, Terry G folded, and Daichi Tominaga check-raised it up to 6000. Suzuki smooth-called the raise and both saw a river card of 10. Tominaga took charge and led out for 14000 but once again Suzuki smooth-called and won the pot with his A 10 against Tominaga’s K J bluff.

Bordallo’s Set > Takayama’s Two Pairs

Level: 8 Blinds: 250-500 Ante: 50

Annie Bordallo opened to 1,500 preflop and found two callers in Renan Morales and Mike Takayama.

Flop: 8 4 3

Bordallo continued her story and bet 2,500 after the flop. Morales got out of the way but Takayama stayed with the hand and called.

Turn: A

Bordallo fired another 3,500 and again, Takayama made the call.

River: 2

This time, Takayama was the first to bet– to a bigger 6,500… Bordallo tanked a bit but made the call.

Bordallo: 8 8
Takayama: A 2

After this hand, Bordallo climbed to over 87,000 well on her way to becoming one of the chip leaders– if not THE chip leader for Day 1A.

Level: 8 Blinds: 250-500 Ante: 50

Jerry Lai ends Rankin’s day

Level: 8 Blinds: 250-500 Ante: 50

George Rankin sent Jerry Lai tanking at the flop of J Q 2 when he shoved all in with his remaining 16,375 chips. After some time, Lai reluctantly made the call only to discover he was ahead with his Q 10 against Rankin’s J 10. With the turn of 4 and river of 9, Rankin’s day ended as Lai was shipped the pot.

Tominaga eliminates Fawaz

Level: 8 Blinds: 250-500 Ante: 50

Daichi Tominaga called Mike Fawaz’s all in at the flop of A 5 9. Both had top pair but Tominaga had Fawaz’s kicker dominated with A Q versus A 8. With the turn of 6 and river of J, Tominaga eliminated Fawaz and scooped up the hefty pile on the table.
