Day 2 ends with 36 remaining

Day 2 is a wrap! After the 8 scheduled rounds, the Main Event bagged up with 36 players remaining, which is four spots away from the money. We will have a recap for you shortly. For now, you can read up on the action right here in our live posts.

Congratulations to all the players that made it through! See you back here tomorrow at 1pm for the next stage of the Main Event race.

Kashima Shinji takes it down

Level: 16 Blinds: 1500-3000 Ante: 3000

To close out the night at table 3, Kashima Shinji three-bet shoved on top of Shinji Sugeta‘s 7500 initial raise that was called by Soichiro Kojiya. No callers. He showed his 10-10.

Aya Kagawa raises for the pot

Level: 16 Blinds: 1500-3000 Ante: 3000

Aya Kagawa

On a board of 6 9 Q 8 and a pot of 34k brewed, big stacked Tomoharu Furuya bet 12k, Aya Kagawa responded with a raise to 50k, and Furuya folded.

Ziegler Oliver

Level: 16 Blinds: 1500-3000 Ante: 3000

Ziegler Oliver raised from the utg and both blinds Shiga Mitsuhiro and Takashi Miyamoto called. On the flop 2 3 6, all checked. On the 3 turn, Shiga bet 8k, Miyamoto folded, and Ziegler called. When the river felted 2, Shiga slid out 17k. Ziegler called and Shiga mucked.

Fokin Valeriy takes a stand

Level: 16 Blinds: 1500-3000 Ante: 3000

Fokin Valeriy

Fokin Valeriy may be tabled with every player able to gobble up his short stack but he is certainly holding strong. He picked up two pots to stay in the running. His first win was a double up through Kashima Shinji with A K over A Q on a dry board.

Next pot, he raised to 7500, chip leader Shinji Sugeta three-bet to 19k, Valeriy shoved for an additional 38.5k to Sugeta, and Valeriy won it with the leader folding.

Shinji Sugeta steamrolling

Level: 16 Blinds: 1500-3000 Ante: 3000

Shinji Sugeta is beginning to distance himself from the rest of the big stacks. He just claimed two sizable pots to drive his stack to nearly 400k.

The first pot was against Kashima Shinji. Kashima raised to 7500, Sugeta three-bet to 23k, and Kashima called. On the flop 2 10 3, Sueta c-bet 18k and Kashima called. On the 8 turn and 9 river, no bets were fired and Sugeta won the pot with J J.

Toshimasa Sakato (L) Shinji Sugeta (R)

Next pot was a battle of the blinds against Toshimasa Sakato. Everyone folded to Sakato who raised to 9k. Sugeta defended his big blind with a re-raise to 23k. Sakato called. On the flop 2 8 4, Sugeta bet 15.5k and Sakato check-called. On the Q turn both checked. Then on the J river, Sugeta went back to his stack and sent out 10.5k. Sakato called. Sugeta won with A Q pair.

Ziegler Oliver doubles up

Level: 15 Blinds: 1200-2400 Ante: 2400

Oliver Ziegler

Ziegler Oliver three-bet all in his 40.1k stack on top of Shiga Mitsuhiro‘s 7k raise. Shiga called.

Shiga 4 4
Ziegler 10 10

The cards fell 5 10 6 J 9 for a winning set and a double up to Ziegler.

Yosuke Otsubo doubles up

Level: 15 Blinds: 1200-2400 Ante: 2400

Yosuke Otsubo

Yosuke Otsubo three-bet all in with his ailing 24.1k stack. Initial raiser Aleksei Sei called.

Otsubo A K
Sei J J

The board ran well for Otsubo 6 K 6 Q 9 for a double up to stay in the running.
