It is rare to see someone quadruple up but it just happened with Andre Moracchini as the happy recipient. The hand began with big-stacked Jack En-Ching Wu raising preflop for the third time in a row. He was called by Kunal Patni and Jarun Gupta, but when it landed on Moracchini, he jammed his 26.2k stack. This was met with a call by all three players.
The board ran A♣ 9♦ 3♠ 2♠ 10♠ with no bets generated for a side pot. Moracchini slapped open his A♠ K♠ nut flush and shipped it as everyone mucked.
He is now above 105k and is closing in on average stack.
Kosei Ichinose just earned himself a huge double up and the hand that did it was up against Jian Wen. On a full board of 5♠ 10♣ 8♥ 7♠ 2♣ and around 55k in the middle, Wen bet 16k and Ichinose tanked. He eventually slid out a 47.5k raise and was answered with an all in by Wen. Ichinose snap-called.
Wen A♦ 10♥ top pair
Ichinose 6♠ 4♠ straight
After counting out the stacks, Ichinose had Wen covered by 1500. Wen was eliminated and Ichinose soared to around 270k.
We seem to have lost Pete Chen early in this round as he is no longer beside Bobby Zhang. However, speaking of Zhang, he just picked up two pots. The first hand was a small one; he raised to 43000 preflop and got called by both Yoshitaka Okawa and Stephen Nathan. The flop came 9♣ 5♥ 2♥, Zhang continued with a bet and got two quick folds to follow.
Next winning hand, from the big blind he called a 5k raise by Nathan and the flop landed J♦ 4♠ Q♣. Zhang checked, Nathan bet 10.3k, and Zhang called. On the turn 5♥, no bets were fired but on the K♠ river, Zhang checked, Nathan bet 11k, and Zhang check-raised all in. Nathan folded.
The hand kicked off with a 4k raise by Wim Bos, called by Tetsuya Tsuchikawa and Lim Shyh Chyn. On the flop 3♠ A♥ 4♣, action was checked to Bos who laid a 6k bet, and again he was called by both players. On the 10♥ turn, another 15k from Bos to fatten the pot but this time, Tsuchikawa moved all in with 22.8k total. Lim got out of the way and Bos with the quick-call.
Tsuchikawa 3♥ 3♣ set
Bos A♦ 10♠ top two pair
The river 2♥ secured the win and the double up to Tsuchikawa.
Michael Soyza continues to own the felt! Prior to this insane hand, he was already sporting the largest stack with around 350k and 46 players remaining. After this hand that sent Kalyan Chakravarthy booted out of the game, it will likely take several more rounds before anyone may have a chance at catching up to the leader.
Entering Day 2, Chakravarthy had one of the biggest stacks having topped Day 1B. He climbed higher in the opening round and managed to keep his stack well above the 100k range. Then it all fell apart in one hand. Action began with Chakravarthy raising to 4k, Soyza three-betting to 16k, and Chakravarthy with the call.
At the flop K-Q-5, Soyza fired out 22k and Chakravarthy called. On the 7 turn, Soyza shoved his massive stack and Chakravarthy took the risk with around 70k behind.
Soyza J-10 offsuit
Chakravarthy Q-6 offsuit
Needless to say everyone was shocked at Chakravarthy’s sick call for his tournament life and of course for calling the three-bet preflop. Still, he was ahead with a pair. When the river came down with a 9, it was all over for Chakravarthy. Soyza improved to a straight and shipped in the enormous pot before him.
Soyza now at 450k in chips.
Another one of those crazy hands came down and luckily we caught the action before it was all over. With a board showing 7♥ 7♣ 5♣ 10♠, small blind Kunal Pati took a stab and bet 8800. He was called by both players in the hand, Jarun Gupta (bb) and Sam Cheong (mp).
On the 4♦ river, Pati took a backseat and passed the betting to Gupta who bet 35k. Cheong was next and he moved all in. Pati folded and Gupta with the snap-call.
Cheong 7♦ 5♦ full house
Gupta 10♣ 10♦ higher full house
Cheong was eliminated and Gupta soared to around 190k.
It has taken some time for us to get a hand on Bobby Zhang but we managed to finally be there at the right moment. The hand began with Zong Chang Lee raising to 2400 and getting called by both Jullian Stanley and Zhang.
At the flop Q♥ J♦ 8♣, Lee fired out a 4800 continuation bet and only Zhang matched it up. On the 7♠ turn, it was checked by both, then on fifth street 8♠, Zhang took the reins and slid out a small 2700 bet. Lee called and Zhang won it with Q♦ 9♣ with Lee sending his cards to the muck pile.
There is no doubt at the moment, Michael Soyza is the chip leader with his stack close to 350k while the nearest competitors sit below the 200k range. To help bring his stack to those heights, he won back-to-back pots against Wei Guoliang, the day’s entering chip leader.
The first one was quite hefty with around 103k in the middle and a full community board of 3♣ 4♦ 2♦ 7♦ K♦. Soyza gave Wei’s stack a look then announced all in. Wei didn’t waste much time to decide and folded.
The next hand Wei raised to 2900 and Soyza defended on the big blind. At the flop 7♠ 10♣ 5♠, both players checked. On the 2♥ turn, Soyza bet 4500 and Wei called. On the Q♣ river, both slowed back to a check-check and Soyza won it with 10♥ 9♠ pair.
Yohwan Lim and Kazuhiko Yotsushika battled for a pot that grew to quite a nice big pile. Yotsushika kicked it off with a 2500 raise, Lim three-bet to 7700, and Yotsushika flat-called. On the flop J♣ 6♣ 8♣, Yotsushika checked to the aggressor Lim who continued with a 6500 bet. He was called. On the Q♥ turn, no bets came for a free river 5♥. This time, Yotsushika switched gears and bet 12k. Lim called. Yotsushika had A♥ 6♥ but was way behind Lim’s K♦ K♠.
