The Asian Poker Tour 2016 concluded the last day one flight of the APT Kickoff 2016 Main Event with 35 players out of 68 entries surviving the day. Sitting at the top of the rung with the largest stack at bagging was Korea’s Jeon Seung Soo with 134,125 chips. Coming in second-in-rank, though still quite far from the leader, was APT Philippines 2015 Main Event champion, Julius Malzanini from Germany with 85,500 chips.
The day began with 21 players availing of the Main Event Bubble Protection, some of those were regulars and notable pros such as Korea’s Sim Jae Kyung, Germany’s Sebastian Benz, Norway’s Kai Paulsen, William Kang, and Michael Kim Falcon to mention a few. Later in the day, more notables made their way to the felt such as Korea’s SJ Kim, APT Vietnam Main Event champion Kwan Kit Kwok, John Tech, and Sam Razavi.
By the halfway point of the tournament, action kept a steady pace with no major big stacks. However, just after the last break of the day, Jeon began to make his move. He won a couple of sizable pots, and eliminated several players as well, to ensure his top-notch status.
Another player also on the rise during the last two levels of the day were Germany’s Vlad Geshkenbein who landed some very sizable pots to end the day with 63,000. Other players surviving with healthy stacks were Paulsen with 64,275, Kwok with 58,750, APT Asian Series Manila Main Event champion Lim Yah Loon with 44,275, and Simba with 40,075. Despite doubling up very many short stacks, Tech also closed the day with a hefty pile of 64,875.
Among those who were unable to survive today was Korea’s John Kim who busted out very early in the tournament. He re-entered, but even with the second attempt, he was unable to hold on to his chips. Singapore’s Daniel Lim also ended up in the rail for the second time. He was eliminated at yesterday’s flight. For Kang, he was on the brink of elimination a few times and was able to double up on many occasions, but not for long as Malzanini had his number and eventually sent him packing.
