Jinho Hong dominates Main Event Day 2, leads the final 37 players; Chip counts and Day 3 info inside
Another grueling day at APT Taiwan 2019 with the Main Event as the star attraction. The day began with the 133 starting days’ survivors returning to host venue Chinese Texas Hold’em Poker Association aka CTP Club. Registration was open for one hour adding 30 more to bring the total entries to 285. With buy-in at TWD 33,000, the prize pool settled at a wealthy TWD 8,293,500 (~USD 270,400).
Main Event Day 2 recap
At the end of Day 2, the field trimmed down significantly to the last 37 players. Closing with a commanding stack of 577,500 (115 bbs) was Korea’s Jinho Hong who had a superb day at the felt. During the opening level, Hong jumped to top rank, was overtaken by He Zong Chi for a brief moment, but regained it at the final hour winning multiple pots with barely a showdown.
Hong is a very familiar face in the APT circuit. At the tour’s previous festival – APT Philippines – Hong cashed in four events and took 3rd in the APT Player of the Series race.
One player giving Hong a challenge for the kingly spot was late-entry Taiwan’s He Zong Chi who bagged a mighty 477,500 (95 bbs). Although that’s exactly 100k less than Hong’s stack, Chi was first to cross into the 500k range before he settled to where he ended the day.
To round out the top three in chips was Singapore’s Wilson Lim with 383,000 (76 bbs). To help build his stack, Lim banked a double up through Chen Choung Yeh before the last level of play connecting on the turn for the nut flush.
Notable players advancing
In addition to the leaders, several decorated APT players made the cut to Day 3. Among them were Guo Dong – 300,000 (60 bbs), APT Taiwan defending champion Chow Cliff – 284,500 (57 bbs), Tetsuya Tsuchikawa – 212,000 (42 bbs), and Graeme Siow – 161,000 (32 bbs).
