PASAY CITY, Philippines – Artem Fedula of Russia outlasted a field of 94 entrants and a talented Final 8 to get his first ever Asian Poker Tour (APT) championship by taking down (Event #8) the Single-Day NLH in the APT 2022 Philippines here at the Grand Wing Casino, Newport World Resorts.
Fedula, originally from Siberia but has been living in Asia for the past fifteen years, battled Korea’s Baek Soohyun in the Heads-Up finale with the end coming when Baek called a preflop raise with Jc9s ad Fedula holding AJd.
The flop came 9d8c5d–Baek with top pair and Fedula having the Nut Flush draw. All the chips went to the center of the table then. The turn gave Fedula the lead when an As appeared and Baek needed to spike one of the two remaining Nines in the deck to stay alive. Instead, the 3h show up and Fedula garnered his first title and only his second cash ever to follow his sixth place finish in the Deep Stack Hyper-Turbo event in the 2022 APT Summer Festival in Hanoi, Vietnam–his current country of residence.
The 33-year-old INPOKER co-founder also won PhP359,800.00 (US$6,332.00) and made a statement with the live victory.
“This shows that INPOKER can help players prepare for the live game,” he said. “We do satellites for APT events and who knows this could start a trend of INPOKER players joining and winning here at the APT.”
Baek took home PhP239,800.00 (US$4,220.00) while third place went to the Philippines’ JR “Rhen Holz” Villanueva for PhP166,700.00 (US$2,934.00).
Day 2 of the Main Event has cards in the air at exactly 1:00PM (UCT+8) with registration still available until before the start of the eleventh level. Action resumes at Level 9.
There will be a Featured Table Livestream as well on the APT’s Twitch and YouTube channels.
Meanwhile, two more side events in the third of the PhP65,000.00 (US$1,144.00) Single-Day High-Rollers (Event #9) and Day 1 of the 2-Day NLH at 4:00PM and 5:00PM, respectively. The first satellite to the PhP10M (US$175,990.00) GTD APT Championships Event also commences at 6:00PM.
