The final day will see six Taiwanese players try to take down the title and the TW$ 725,200 (~US$ 24,200) first prize while three players from other nations – Singapore, New Zealand, Australia – will attempt to deny them the glory. Leading the race is Hamish Crawshaw who won an international event in Vietnam last year. He is in great shape to capture his second major Asian title.

Only two players have previously reached the final table of a major APT event. Second ranked Chi Jen Chu will be looking to finish better than his 6th place at the APT Taiwan 2019 Championships Event. Shortest stacked Yi Wei Peng will also be looking to finish better than his 5th place finish at APT Taiwan 2019 Championships Event.

Vincent Huang is one to watch for. Though he has work to do to rise from bottom rank, he has already won two series side event titles and is currently ranked second in the APT Player of the Series race. One lady remains, Liu Chen Yi who won last year’s APT Taiwan Ladies of Poker event and was awarded the same event trophy at this series for being the last woman standing. Including Liu, this will be the first time the rest of the players have become finalists at an APT featured event.

Catch the action on Monday, March 9 at the Chinese Texas Hold’em Poker Association. If you can’t join the rail, you can watch the action via APT Twitch starting at 2pm.

Day 2 recap

Day 2 opened with one hour of late registration. This brought in another 8 entries for a total of 82 entries. The prize pool amounted to TW$ 2,386,200 (~US$ 79,600) with only 9 players guaranteed a piece. After nine hours of play, the bubble burst to form the final 9 roundup.  You can read up on the action via the Live Updates.

Chi Jen Chu

34 starting day survivors returned today led by Taiwan’s Chi Jen Chu. Along the way, Vincent Huang shipped all of Fan Jhih Wei‘s chips to take the lead. Once it was down to the final two tables with 18 remaining, Sim Jian Horng was the new leader, Chu was close behind followed by Huang.

Chu resumed leadership after railing Huang Hsu with a straight 6 5 denying the set 2 2 on a board of 2 3 4 Q 8. The shoves were at the flop. But Chu wasn’t the only one banking a big pile. Chin Wei Khong 2 2 railed Horng 9 9 on a board 4 3 2 8 3. The shoves were on the turn. For the first time, Khong held the lead.

Chin Wei Khong

Charging up the ranks as well was Yi Wei Peng eliminating Collin Ho. Then Huang ended the hopes of APT Finale Taiwan finalist Kuang Hung Lee. At this point, Hamish Crawshaw began his ascent. On a turn board  K 5 Q 10, Crawshaw check-raised all in with K Q and Ori Kossonogi called with Q 10. The river Q awarded both a full house but Crawshaw was ahead to slide into the leader’s seat.

Peng and Crawshaw continued to rattle the felt. Peng eliminated Pete Yen Han Chen with pocket tens holding against A-K, while Crawshaw eliminated David Tai Hsing Hsiung with A-J over A-10. This signalled the bubble round with 10 players remaining.

It took nearly an hour and a half for the bubble to burst. During that time, Peng suffered a couple of costly hits to send his stack way down. He doubled up Chu and Hsien Hua Chin. Then the bubble finally burst.

After enjoying a rise in chips from 44k to 200k, Chich I-Fang came crashing down one spot before the money. His executioner was Chu. The preflop raise war led to shoves. Chu with 5 5, Chich with A K, the board 7 2 7 3 10
