Day 1b, the final flight of the Asian Poker Tour Cebu 2016 Main Event, kicked off with a good turnout of players heating up the felt early to avail of the Main Event Bubble Protection. There were 42 early birds who ensured themselves bubble protection, and among those were previous Main Event winner Lim Yah Loon, Japan’s Tetsuya Tsuchikawa, Azusa Maeda, and recent Head Hunter champion, Iori Yogo.
By the end of late registration / re-entry, there were 80 entries in the books, with other notables such as Alex Lee and day 1a re-entry players Feng Zhao and Kai Paulsen joining in the action. Only 42 eventually made it through to day 2 with Filipino player John Sayo finishing as the chip leader with 113,550 chips. Ending the day second-in-chips was Palau’s Ralph Kanai with 100,800 chips.
Earlier in the day Sayo and Kanai climbed to the chip leader’s seat but when they ended up facing each other, Sayo won a big pot against Kanai with his ace-king landing two pair and took the lead which he held until bagging. Coming in third was Filipino poker pro Lester Edoc with 91,800 chips. Incidentally, Edoc and Kanai both won their seats at the Last Chance Main Event Mega Satellite.
Day 1b also saw UK’s Samad Razavi and Filipino player Mike Takayama make the cut however players Linh Tran, William Kang, and Sebastian Benz were part of the crew who were unable to survive the heat.
