Doors open today for the APT Philippines III 2016

Greetings everyone and welcome to the Asian Poker Tour’s ninth event of the calendar year, the APT Philippines III 2016! Held at one of the country’s highly popular casino resort destinations, Resorts World Manila, the festival begins today, Wednesday, September 14th, and will run until Thursday, September 22nd.

Over the course of the nine days, the series will host a total of nineteen side events with varying limits for everyone to enjoy. The highlight tournament is the USD 1,650 Main Event, the only APT ring event on the schedule, which kicks off on the weekend.

The lovely ladies of APT welcome you to APT Philippines III!

Setting the pace for the festival is the APT-RWM Opening Event USD 50,000 Guaranteed. With a buy-in of USD 275, this event usually attracts a large number of players eager to score that first big win. The two starting flights are offered today, Flight A at 1pm and Flight B at 5pm. Things to know:

  • Starting stack is 15,000 (a deep 300x the starting big blind)
  • Blinds increase every 30 minutes
  • Late registration closes at the start of round 7
  • Play will pause at the end of 13 rounds (end of first day)
  • Two-day event

The subsequent days will see the series open up with more than one side event offered daily. On Thursday, September 15th, the festival will host three games with the first high roller event of the series taking the lead, the Pot Limit Omaha High Rollers. Buy-in is USD 2,200. The Battle of the Nations, an increasingly popular team event, runs smack in the middle of the afternoon with an entry fee of USD 440 per team, then in the evening, a game for a cause, the Ante Up for Charity with an entry fee of USD 150.

The weekend gets started on Friday, September 16th with more poker games on the roster. The crowd favorite, the Head Hunter USD 100 Bounty, kicks off the fun with players looking to slaughter their opponents at every turn. Entry fee is USD 440. It is followed by its antithesis, the Ladies of Poker event, which balances the room by adding grace to the felt. Buy-in is USD 165. And later in the day, those events are joined by the High Roller Open Face Chinese Pineapple Shootout 12 Max, a game that is slowly gaining more and more attention. Entry fee is USD 1,100.

By Saturday, September 17th, the highlight event takes center stage, the USD 1,650 Main Event. This event offers two Day one flights with the second one held on Sunday, September 18th. This is the only event where players can win the gorgeous APT Championship Ring. Eight of these solid silver bands have already been awarded with Korea’s Jeon Seung Soo and Japan’s Shinichiro Tone earning theirs at the previous installments of the series earlier this year. For players looking to enter the main at a lower cost, there are onsite Main Event Mega Satellites offered daily leading up to the Main Event.

Although all the events are quoted in US Dollars the country of the Philippines widely uses its own currency, the Philippine Peso. For visitors planning to head out of the casino area, make sure to carry the local currency to avoid any problems.

This is also the time of year called Habagat, which means it is Monsoon (wet) season. It is highly advisable to bring an umbrella, wear a cap or a raincoat. Expect to have some rain daily.
