Japan’s Daichi Tatsumi shipped in the Welcome Event title and Orathai Nasathaen won the Ladies of Poker. We’ve got those recaps for you below.
Daichi Tatsumi wins the Welcome Event
The NLH Welcome Event kicked off the festival with 89 entries for a healthy prize pool of HKD 259,000. Yesterday saw the money begin to flow starting at 15th place. After a night’s break, the event resumed today with the final 7 players back at the scene. Winning his first-ever live tournament title was Japan’s Daichi Tatsumi. Tatsumi earned the HKD 66,700 first place purse and a trophy to start his collection.
Welcome Event Champion, Daichi Tatsumi
Backtracking to yesterday’s bout, during the crucial bubble round our eventual winner Tatsumi was short-stacked and pushed it all in holding A-J. He was called by two players, one with K-Q and the other with Q-J. Tatsumi went on to win the hand earning a triple up which he took all the way to today’s final race.
The only other Japanese player that advanced to today’s race was Wataru Kosugi. Kosugi delivered the bubble when his 8♥ 9♣ defeated A♦ K♣ on a board that ran 8♠ Q♦ 2♠ 8♣ 10♣. Kosugi went on to finish in 6th place following 7th placer Dae Gon Lee to the rail.
Taking 5th was Chi Fai Chong “Gostinho” who got burned on the river by Wilson Lim Chong Way. Chi was all in with K♦ Q♥ and was ahead of Lim’s 10♥ J♦ on a turn board of J♥ Q♣ 6♥ 2♣. However when the river landed a 10♦, Lim improved to bring the table down to four players.
It took a while before the next elimination arrived and when it did, it was Lim out in 4th place. Lim suffered two big hits to his stack before the boot. He lost the first one – the largest one – to Tatsumi. Both players were all in on a turn board of 5♦ 4♦ 3♦ 3♥. Lim had J♣ J♠ and Tatsumi with 5♥ 5♣ full house. The river was 7♠. Tatsumi doubled up to a monstrous lead while Lim spiraled down to 12 bbs.
To drive the nail in further, short stacked Shengyong Wang spiked a lucky two outer on the river with his J♣ J♠ over Lim’s Q♥ Q♠ on a board of 7♣ 3♥ 8♠ 6♣ J♥. Two hands later, Lim was eliminated.
The three-handed round saw a very active Wang. This caused his stack to swing wildly and in three consecutive hands, he was booted in 3rd place by Tatsumi.
The heads up round began with Tatsumi ahead of Hyoung Suob 2.5:1. Despite Suob’s attempts, he was unable to make a dent on the big stack. Hand #19 saw the tournament come to a close with Tatsumi calling Suob’s all in on a flop of 6♣ 8♥ J♠. Suob had 10♥ 9♣ draw while Tatsumi held J♣ 8♣ two pair. The turn 9♠ and river 3♣ sealed it for Tatsumi’s first-ever live tournament victory.

Orathai Nasathaen shines at the Ladies event
There were 16 fine women that participated in the Ladies of Poker event and outshining them all was Thailand’s Orathai Nasathaen. This was Nasathaen’s first-ever live tournament victory which means it was also her biggest win. She was awarded the HKD 18,000 first place purse and the event trophy. Recap below.

Catching the action at five-handed and the money two spots away, Nasathaen earned maximum pay for her monster quads. With blinds at 600-1200 ante 200, utg Nasathaen limp-called a raise by the big blind player. On the flop of 7♣ 7♥ 4♥, bb player bet 4500 and Nasathaen called. Action on the turn Q♥ was the same with Nasathaen calling a 7500 bet. Just before the river A♣ was felted, bb player announced all in and Nasathaen called. Nasathaen revealed her 7♠ 7♦ quads and shipped a huge double up. Bb player mucked.
Equipped with a very healthy stack, Nasathaen proceeded to eliminate two players to enter the money round with a dominating lead. She got even richer after railing Yuek Woon Lam in 3rd place. Lam shoved with J♦ 9♥ on a flop of A♦ Q♠ 10♥ and was in a world of hurt after seeing Nasathaen’s K♣ J♥ straight. The 10♣ turn and 2♦ river completed the hand and it was quickly heads up against Tsz Ching Dun.
The round began with Nasathaen up 4:1 in chips. Dun managed to bump up her stack but was still chasing the leader when the final hand arrived. Dun was all in with A♦ Q♠ and Nasathaen called with A♣ K♣. The flop pretty much said it all as it ran 7♣ 2♣ 10♣ for a victorious flush. The 4♥ turn and 2♥ river were just for formality.

14:00: Event #5 – Head Hunter (HKD 1,000/Bounty)
To kick off your Friday, nothing could be more thrilling than the Head Hunter event. This is one of the most popular competitions in the lineup with players ruthlessly chasing heads to capture that HKD 1,000 bounty prize per elimination. Buy-in is HKD 4,400.
17:00: Satellite 3 – Main Event
The third Main Event satellite gets underway late in the afternoon. Keep in mind, there are only four satellites offered so if you are looking to try and enter the main at a fraction of the cost, don’t miss this opportunity. Buy-in is HKD 1,200. One seat will be awarded per ten players.
