Congratulations to Ray Serion, who won the RWM Satellite Series 500K Guaranteed, on June 13th! For the win, he received a seat to the APT Philippines 2010 main event and Php 40,000 in cash!
Here’s what Ray had to say about his win:
When the table came down to heads up between myself and my opponent, he had over 670,000 tournament chips compared to my 80,000, giving him almost 10:1 ratio of the 750,000 chips. The blinds were at 5,000-10,000. With potentially only 5-6 hands to play going heads up at these blinds, my best hand selections were to play any face card any ace card. I still felt I could afford to be strategic selective and make it appear to my opponent that my smaller chip stack translated my playing style as being too tight and scared. I was lucky enough to double up twice playing any face any ace and this gave me another “mode” to shift into, with his composure of confidence deteriorating. I was able to adjust and shift gears, whereas he wasn’t; with his thinking process of having a large chip stack and his thoughts of my “weak” game.
“YOU HAVE TO MAKE IT A MISTAKE FOR A PLAYER TO TAG YOU AS A CERTAIN TYPE. YOU HAVE TO BE ABLE TO PLAY MANY STYLES AND BE THOUGHTFUL ABOUT WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO CHANGE GEARS.”
The last hand was played with my slightly larger chip stack covering his with my unraised A-6 offsuit on the button against his Q-4 offsuit. The flop came 6-6-4, whereas as he checked his pair of 4’s on the flop, and I bet out 50,000 to show I was making a bluff in position, and he decides to push all in with his two pair, which was my objective by betting out first. Turn is an ace – he’s drawing dead – tournament over.
