Clutch win for Vu Minh Tri at the Dafabet Head Hunter

Another winner at APT Vietnam Ho Chi Minh 2019! The newest series champion was Vietnam’s Vu Minh Tri at the Dafabet Head Hunter event. Vu overcame a deficit at heads up to earn the VND 153,540,000 first prize and lift his first-ever APT trophy. You can watch the final table action via APT Twitch and APT YouTube. We also have a final day recap below.

The Dafabet Head Hunter tournament ran a scheduled two days. It drew a total of 84 entries (70 uniques and 14 re-entries), each one paying the VND 9,900,000 buy-in for a cash prize pool of VND 565,320,000 (~USD 24,000). 14 players claimed a respective share. As incentive, for every player knocked out, the executioner received a VND 2,000,000 bounty reward.

In Day 1, the bubble was delivered by Korea’s Jin Yong Bae. The day closed with 10 players remaining and Jin as chip leader.

Final Day recap

The final day started off with Long Ip Seng claiming the first head  in Jun Beum Chun to bring the field down to 9 players. Eventual winner Vu Minh Tri – who entered the day as second big stack – added more to his arsenal by railing famous Korean comedian Kim Hak Do in 9th place with A J straight over K Q on a board of 10 9 6 7 8. Next to fall was Singaporean pro Norbert Koh (8th) whose short stack was shipped to Nguyen Tien Thanh

At seven remaining, chip leader Jin Yong Bae brought the axe down on Tien Thanh. Vu claimed his second final table bounty by railing Antoine Phan in 6th place. Then Jin claimed the next two heads – Yin Jianzheng (5th) and Long Ip Seng (4th) – to amass an overwhelming stack.

Jin continued to run hot and proceeded to deliver a sick bad beat to Taras Mashevskyi. It was pocket kings versus pocket jacks. Jin’s jacks spiked a friend on the board for a winning set.

Heads up round

Heads up lasted all of 31 hands. It began with Jin ahead 3:1 against Vu. At hand #10, Vu tightened the gap. He exposed Jin’s 8 7 bluff on a full board 5 10 2 6 A. Vu called a big river bet with K 5

For the first time all day, Vu took the lead on hand #11 with K-J over K-2 on a board J 3 10 10 2. By hand #23, Jin charged back and reclaimed the chip lead and climbed further with uncalled bets. However, Vu stayed cool and steady. He picked up a sizable pot on hand #29 with a higher two pair to go back on top. The hand saw a full board A J 2 10 Q with bets seen on every street. Jin had Q 2 while Vu had better A 10

Two hands after, it was all over. Action saw Jin raise to 35k, Vu three-bet to 100k, Jin called. At the flop Q 9 6, Vu bet 60k, Jin shoved, Vu tanked. After spending two time banks, Vu found the courage to call, and it was a good one.
