Championships Event sets record attendance of 288 entries; Zarvan Tumboli leads the 45 Day 2 survivors

The APT Summer Festival Hanoi – VSOP 2022 set a new APT Vietnam record with the CHAMPIONSHIPS EVENT drawing 288 total entries. This surpassed the previous high of 248 at the 2019 APT Vietnam Kickoff. In addition, with buy in at VN₫ 38,500,000, it more than doubled the guarantee into an enormous VN₫ 9,777,600,000 (~US$ 416,866) prize pool. Day 2 ended with 45 players remaining and the money still 16 spots away. The top three players at bagging time were all from India.

Zarvan Tumboli crushed the day with a towering 1,151,000 stack. He knocked out more than a handful of players. Ankit Wadhawan finished ranked second with 809,000. Wadhawan was seen racking up chips throughout the day with a big one landed during the final level with full house over trips. Decorated APT Main Event champion Shardul Parthasarathi closed the day ranked third with 726,000 in chips. Like Wadhawan, Parthasarathi climbed throughout the day and won a big pot close to bagging time.

The 45 survivors return to the felt on Friday, July 23 at 11am where they will race to the money which begins at 29th place. Once reached it will be a hunt for a seat to the Final 8. Live updates will run throughout.

Day 2 recap

Day 2 opened with 87 players out of the 209 entries returning from the starting heats. With registration still open for three levels, it pulled in another 79 to set a new APT Vietnam Championships Event record attendance of 288 entries. Korea’s Ham Heung Chul carried in the chip lead and survived the day with a 19 BB stack. Second ranked Chien Than saw his stack swing all day finally resting at a very healthy 79 BB. Than was the reason for Ankit Wadhawan to amass the second biggest stack at the end of Day 2. Wadhawan had a commanding full house over Than’s trips Twos. Zarvan Tumboli entered the day ranked fifth in chips and stayed massive throughout. He climbed over a million in chips after making a hero-call on a King high board with pocket Tens to deny Nguyen Ngoc Dai the pot. His last knock out was Kanchan Sharma with pocket Jacks dominating her pocket Nines.

One of the day’s most impressive climbs was decorated APT Main Event champion Hue Dang who had dropped down to 20 BB halfway through the day. She recovered and closed Day 2 with running 4th in chips with 676,000 (135 BB) bagged up. Another decorated champion making noise was Akshay Nasa who went head to head against high roller Hieu Ngo numerous times and eventually got the best of him. This awarded Nasa a mountain of chips which he carried until the end. Two other champions persevering were Huy Pham with 32.8 BB, Nguyen Van Sang aka Hoa Thien with 26.6 BB, and Huu Dung Nguyen with a stack equivalent to 21.8 BB.

You can read up on some of the day’s action via the Live Updates. Coming Day 3, the money will flow starting at 29th place with minimum payout of VN₫ 66,820,000 (~US$ 2,850) and on the clear opposite end, a champion’s payout of VN₫ 2,298,440,000 (~US$ 97,993) which is higher than the Main Event first place prize money.
