Day 1A of the Championships Event got on the floor today with 78 signing up for a chance at the juicy VN₫ 4 Billion guarantee. This was the second featured event of the ongoing APT Summer Festival Hanoi – VSOP 2022. Among the players in attendance was the first ever winner of this event, Vietnam’s Huu Dung Nguyen. He ended the day as one of the 28 survivors. Also pulling through the scheduled eight rounds was Dao Minh Phu who stole the Main Event headlines numerous times and finished in 4th place. He bagged up the third largest stack. The starting heat concluded with Korea’s Ham Heung Chul bagging a monstrous 422,800 stack. Chul set the bar very high for players entering Day 1B.
Just before the last number of hands was called, Chul won a big pot that started as a three-way with Bach Hoang Nguyen and Slade Fisher. At the flop J♦ 10♣ 4♣, action was checked to Fisher who bet 12k onto a 25k pot. Both Chul and Nguyen called. No bets landed on the turn 5♣ to see a free river K♥. Chul led for 30k, Nguyen tank-called, Fisher folded, back to Chul who showed his K♣ 3♣ flush. Nguyen was visibly disappointed while showing his A♣ Q♦ straight.
