It took less than three hours on the final day for the Head Hunter event to crown its Boba Fett and it was none other than the reigning APT Taiwan Main Event champion He Zong Chi. Chi grinded down Wang Tzu Wei at heads up to ship NT$ 176,900 and the APT event trophy. Additionally, he collected 10 bounty rewards worth NT 2,000 each.
APT Finale Taiwan 2019 drew 86 to the NT$ 11,000 buy-in Head Hunter event for a cash pot of NT$ 66,200 (~US$ 21,700). At Day 1, Chi Jen Chen delivered the bubble to guarantee a dividend to the remaining 15 players. The day closed at the formation of the final 8 players led by Chen (seat 5). They returned today at partner / host venue Chinese Texas Hold’em Poker Association (CTP Club) to battle for the crown.
The first to drop were short stacks Lee Kun Han (8th) and Masaki Hori (7th). Ori Kossonogi (6th) followed when he ran into Chi’s pocket aces. However, for Song Daewoong (5th), his A? A? were cracked by Wei’s A? K? that improved to a runner runner straight on a board 3? 5? 10? Q? J?.
Next out was Chen who took a hard fall on the river against Chi. Chen had 8♠ 8♦, Chi A♠ Q♣, and ace showed up on the river. This awarded Chi a massive stack and a huge lead entering three-handed.
Short stacked Clarence Ngay who entered the final day with 14 bbs could never reach the height of the leaders but did ladder up to 3rd place. He had 4 uncalled shoves but on the fifth, Wang Tzu Wei called. Ngay A♥ Q♦, Wei A♣ K♦, the board A♠ 8♦ 9♦ 4♠ 8♥.
At heads up, Chi dominated the action winning a majority of the pots to grind down Wei. The final hand soon arrived with Wei calling Chi’s three bet shove. Wei J♦ 10♦, Chi A♥ 3♣, the board J♥ 2♣ 6♣ A♠ 7♠. The self-proclaimed champion He Zong Chi claimed victory.
