APT Vietnam Ho Chi Minh 2022: 158 begin Main Event Day 3, Side Events return

HO CHI MINH CITY, Vietnam – With the record field playing out two Day 2 flights yesterday, 158 now battle for a spot In The Money (ITM) and have a shot at the richest poker prize pool in the history of this country as Day 3 of the APT Vietnam Ho Chi Minh 2022 Main Event rages on at the Saigon Poker Club here.

With more than VND14.4B (US$620.920.00) now at stake—from the original VND6B (US$258,000.00), the initial goal is to break in to the top 73 (the ITM mark) and be guaranteed VND37,960,000.00 (US$1,632.00). However, the real aim is the top purse of over VND2.7B (US$116,441.00).

American Tom Tran came into today as the overall chip-leader with 338,000, a mere 1,000 over second placer Sumit Sapra of India. Japan’s Homma Kasuke entered at third with 316,000 in chips while Francis Garson of France (281,500) and the host nation’s Dinh Xuan Dinh (275,000) are fourth and fifth, respectively.

Tournament officials have intimated that Day 3 will be played down to at the very least the final two tables but—depending on the digression of the remaining players—action could continue until the Final 8 is revealed.
At present, the Main Event is at Level 16—2,000/4,000 (BB ante 4,000) with 108 players still in the running.

Meanwhile, the Side Events have returned after being stricken from the event calendar yesterday (to focus on the two Day 2 flights). Ongoing now is the fourth Single-Day High-Rollers (Event #14) and the intriguing Short Deck competition (Event #16).

The next update happens when we near the Main Event’s ITM Bubble.
