APT Taichung Championship: Day 1A attracts 125 entries, 15 advance

TAICHUNG CITY, Taiwan – When the cards flew, only one table was active for the Asian Poker Tour (APT) Taichung Championship. But as the night dragged on, Day 1A drew a massive 125 entries and almost had the Chinese Texas Hold’em Poker Association (CTP Club) here bursting at seams.

125 entries headline Day 1A of the APT Taichung Championship

This single day figure is an indication of the post-pandemic response to poker across the continent as legions welcome its rebirth in the live arena and these statistics continue to rise as new players begin to venture past the online realm and enter the live game in greater numbers.

With Day 1B and Day 1C set to both be played later (24th September), tournament officials and floor personnel are bracing themselves for what could be an influx that could set new attendance records in this country. Day 1B starts at 1:00PM (UCT+8) while Day 1C is at 6:30PM.

The previous two APT stops in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam (last August) and the recently concluded second series held in the Philippines’ Newport World Resorts saw the guaranteed prize pools triple and with this early result, Taiwan could be no different.

Of  the 125 entries in this NT$1M (US$41,420.00) guaranteed event, fifteen soldier on to Day 2 led by chip-leader Chiang Wei Chen with 448,000 in holdings. Chen Qing Yuan is a distant second with 356,000 while third is held by Lin Jian Hong with 312,000.
