Basic Poker Psychology (Part 1)

Welcome back for a brand new series of poker tips. This latest series is all about how about you can use poker psychology to your advantage when playing the game. Psychology can play a huge part in poker, particularly as you get more advanced and play at the high stakes. However, it is also relevant at any level of the game and in this series we focus on some of the basic aspects of poker psychology. First up is the importance of your frame of mind.

Playing at the Right Time

Trying to get in the mind of your opponents is all well and good – and if you can do that well enough then you stand a great chance of being successful at the tables. You should not underestimate, though, the importance of knowing your own mind and playing at the right times. Playing poker when you are in the wrong frame of mind can quite possibly lead to you making the wrong decisions, playing badly and generally costing you money.

The great thing about online poker is that is always a game going on for you to take part in, so you can play whenever you want. This also means if you don’t feel like playing as you are not in the right frame of mind, then you can be patient and wait until another time. Ideally, you should stick to playing poker when you feel alert, fresh and with no distractions. If you are tired, or have other things on your mind then just wait until a better time. If you only play poker when your mind is clear and you can focus on what you are doing, then you will ultimately stand a much better chance of being a winning poker player.
