In the final part of this particular series of tips, we look at two more mistakes that many beginner poker players make. As we have mentioned before, if you think you are guilty of making these mistakes then don’t let it worry. You are not alone, and some of the best poker players in the world probably made similar mistakes when they first started out. The important to thing is to be aware of them, and try to avoid making them in future.
Trying to Bluff Too Much
There are few feelings in poker more rewarding than pulling off a great bluff and getting your opponent to fold a winning hand. However, the key to good bluffing is to not do it too often. Many poker players try and bluff all the time when they are starting out, but it won’t take long for other plays to catch on to what you are doing. The best poker players are not the ones that bluff the most, but rather the ones that bluff at the right time and get the most value.
Ignoring Your Opponent’s Hands
The strength of your own hand is, of course, very important in poker. However, it is also vital to consider what your opponent’s might be holding too. It is very common for poker players to only think about their cards, but you really should be thinking about the other players too. You might have a straight, which is a great hand, but what if there are four clubs on the board and you have two red cards? Always try and analyse what your opponents are doing, and think about what their actions might mean about the cards they have.
