Which APT Events Should I Enter?

During an APT tournament, running beside the prestigious Main Event are plenty of Side Events and Main Event Satellites to suit your playing style and budget. They feature a range of different buy-ins to make up a festival of poker for less experienced players, intermediate players and pros alike.

However, gauging what’s best for you as somewhat of a newcomer to the game can be tricky so here are a few tips in picking your first events:

    1. The affordability of the buy-in is dictated by your APT bankroll or, in other words, the amount of money you are dedicating to poker for the APT week. A good rule of thumb is you want to stretch your bankroll to be able to play as many Side Events and Main Event Satellites as possible during the week.
    2. The timing of the event is always a factor. Most Side Events for the APT will last anywhere from 6-8 hours depending on how many players enter the event. Main Event Satellites are around 4.5 to 6.5 hours depending on how many players enter.
    3. While it’s every players dream to win the Main Event title, perhaps the best way to work your way into playing it as a newbie is by entering a satellite. Satellites are a chance to win a seat into the Main Event for a faction of the price it would normally cost to enter. Two different types of satellites are offered during an APT week right up until the last starting day of the Main Event. One has a more affordable buy-in with re-buys and another one features a buy-in where one out of every 10 players who enter will win a seat.

Now with this advice you can make an educated decision in picking your first event to enter at an Asian Poker Tour tournament.
