It’s Friday, let the weekend games begin! Getting underway at 1pm is the Main Event of the Asian Poker Tour Experience Manila 2016 with the 18 remaining players headed back to the felt at the APT Poker Room in Waterfront Manila Pavilion Hotel and Casino. Now that everyone is in the money, the goal in everyone’s mind is to accumulate more chips to earn a seat into the Final Table of Eight.
Coming into Day 3 with the largest stack is Korea’s Jae Chul Chang with 261,500 chips. Chang finished Day 1b as the leader, entered Day 2 second in the chip count, and surged ahead yesterday to earn the chip leader status. Trailing just behind him is Filipino pro John Tech with 237,500 chips, and in third position is one of APT’s two-time Main Event champion, Korea’s Jeon Seung Soo with 200,500 chips.
Joining the leaders are some well-known players in the APT circuit such as Denmark’s Michael Kim Falcon, Canada’s Linh Tran, Korea’s John Kim, Lim Yo Hwan, and Japan’s Jun Funabashi. Funabashi is running hot at the festival having already profited in two events plus an extra set of bills at the Battle of the Nations event as the Last Team Standing with Tetsuya Tsuchikawa. Tran has also gained some payouts including a trophy at the Head Hunter event.
Side Events on Deck and Results
Running side-by-side the Main Event is the Monster Stack at 2pm. Buy-in for this event is P27,500. This is scheduled to be a 2-day event. At 6pm, another popular event hits the floor, the MSW Deep Stack Turbo. Entry fee is P5,500. Head to the website for more information on those events such as structure, starting stack, etc.
Pot Limit Omaha Hi Champion, Hajime Mogi
Last night saw another two players take home trophies with the first one claimed by Japan’s Hajime Mogi for winning the Pot Limit Omaha Hi event. With 37 entries for this event and a prize pool of P358,900, Mogi defeated Guam’s Edson Chi Wing Lai at the heads up round to earn the P143,600 first place money and the event trophy.
WLS Deep Stack Turbo Champion, Aun Sin
At the WeLoveSport Deep Stack Turbo event, there were 57 entries generating a prize pool of P276,400. The heads up round saw Japan’s Iori Yogo up against Korea’s Aun Sin. With both players holding about even stacks, exchanging chip leads often, Sin won a big double up with pocket sixes, crippling Yogo down to three big blinds. Yogo was able to recover some chips when he landed a flush, and a few hands after, a straight, but it didn’t last as he went all in with K♣ 6♠ and was called by Sin’s 10♦ 10♥ that completed into a full house on a board of 9♣ 2♣ 10♣ 9♥ 4♦. Sin earned the P76,400 first place prize money and the event trophy.
