Xuan Tan reigns at the High Rollers; Kai Paulsen surges to victory at the NLH 2

China claimed another title at the APT Macau Championships 2018 with Xuan Tan becoming the latest player to lift up a trophy at Macau Billionaire Poker in Babylon Casino. Tan overcame some of the finest Asian pros of the High Rollers event, commanding the final four round to capture the HKD 583,500 first prize.

The two-day HIgh Roller event ran from May 1 – 2 with 50 entries ponying up the HKD 43,000 entry fee. This generated a hefty pot of HKD 1,940,000 with 9 players earning a cut.

Catching the action at four-handed, Tan was loaded with an incredibly monstrous stack. Around the table were other Asian pros, Michael Soyza, Chin Wei Lim, and Gao Wenling. Short-stacked Soyza doubled up twice before losing a large fraction of it to Gao. His title hope ended with Tan’s A Q dominating his K Q throughout.

Next on Tan’s chopping block was Lim. Lim gambled his tournament life on Q 9 but failed to improve against Tan’s 5 5 turned set on a board of 5 7 A 8 4. Entering the heads up bout against Gao, Tan was up 5:1 which increased further after the first hand.

Praying for some luck, Gao got exactly what she need to avoid elimination. Her K 4 all in spiked a pair on a board of 10 9 4 8 3 to defeat Tan’s A K. However, the added ammo only prolonged the inevitable. She was all in again with K 4 and this time could not defeat Tan’s A 10 with the board running 10 9 7 8 7.

Late surge victory for Kai Paulsen at the No Limit Hold’em 2

Norwegian pro Kai Paulsen got on the board with a victory at the No Limit Hold’em 2 event but before doing so, he had to get past China’s Guangli Liu who was on fire at the Final 8. Liu railed three players to amass a 5:1 lead against Paulsen entering the heads up round.

Despite the deficit, Paulsen came to win. He landed three double ups to finally take the lead for the first  time. Several hands after, Liu offered a deal that would end the game. Paulsen agreed and he claimed the title. Paulsen pocketed HKD 55,400 and Liu HKD 45,300.

The No Limit Hold’em 2 attracted 79 runners for a prize pool of HKD 229,900. 14 players earned a cut. You can view the payouts in the Events & Results page or click here.
