PASAY CITY, Philippines – Almost hitting the total of its two predecessors combined, Day 1C of the Asian Poker Tour (APT) 2022 Philippines Main Event, saw 102 runners advance to Day 2 of the competition to join the 88 that made it through as action concluded for the night at the Grand Wing Casino, Newport World Resorts here.
With 403 total entries tallied, the current prize pool of PhP19,545,500 (US$341,663) is seen to still swell with registration open for the first two levels of the resumption later at 1:00PM (UCT+8).
Day 1C saw Filipino Jeroge Lagatuz leading the qualifiers with 160,000 (good for third overall) while Zachary Duce of Australia got second with 144,600. Japan’s Isayama Ko took third with 131,800.
American veteran campaigner Kevin Bortfeld still holds the overall chip-lead with 207,800 while Professional Offline Poker League (POPL) Head-Hunter titlist Dzmitry Budai is still at second with 179,900.
Day 2 will have a featured table Livestream shown on the APT YouTube and Twitch channels.
In the meantime, Filipino pro Eman Segismundo took down his fourth APT crown by besting a field of 75 entries enroute to winning (Event #14) the ever-popular Deep Stack Turbo (DST).
Segismundo last won here in the 2019 APT Manila in the PhP25,000 (US$437) Single-Day No Limit Hold’EM (NLH).
After an ICM chop was agreed upon prior to three-handed play, Segimundo pocketed PhP136,200 (US$2,381) while second placers Dexter Brillo and John Jay Magadan (both also from the Philippines) each took home PhP125,200 (US$2,189).
The action was deliberate and calculating in (Event #13) the Single-Day NLH where Hal Rotholz of the United States outlasted Singapore’s Huang Guo Lun for his first title abroad.
Rotholz, a WSOP veteran whose largest career single event cash was US$203,281 for finishing second in this year’s WSOP $10,000 Razz Championship, this time walked away with PhP348,200 (US$6,087) for the win. The 43-year-old Floridan has a total of 17 cashes in the WSOP alone.
Huang picked up PhP232,100 (US$4,057) for his second place finish while Katsuhito Kawai of Japan records his third straight ITM for finishing in third for PhP161,400 (US$2,821). Kawai has already won two trophies in the Hyper Deep Stack Turbo (H-DST) events and is presently in second place behind WSOP Bracelet holder Mike Takayama in the current Player of the Series (POS) standings.
Finally, (Event #15) the fourth H-DST tiff, saw another Japanese player in Yuta Izumi triumph against Kim Ehyun of Korea for PhP114,500 (US$2,001).
Izumi garnered his third APT cash and first ever trophy while Kim settled for the PhP76,300 (US$1,334) second prize. Another Korean in Jeong Munsu got third for PhP53,000 (US$926).
