Yes indeed, another full house at the APT Taiwan 2019 inaugural festival taking place at CTP Club (Chinese Texas Hold’em Poker Association). The festival kicked off on February 20 and will run until Mach 3. Today, several events burned rubber on the floor starting with the MAIN EVENT – TWD 5 Million guaranteed on its second of three Day 1s. Before the close of day, the guarantee was smashed with 127 registered. This event was joined by three others.
The Head Hunter returned with the final 8 of the 118 total entries racing to the title. We’ve got those results and highlights for you below. The Pot Limit Omaha Hi and the High Rollers Single Day #1 also got underway. We will have the review on those two tomorrow.
Main Event Day 1B
A thunderous 127 runners turned up for Day 1B of the Main Event and at the end of the scheduled 8 rounds of 60-minutes each, the field was down to half with 64 players surviving. Finishing at the top was USA’s Manh Nguyen with 138,000.
Right at Nguyen’s heels was China’s Chen Dong with 134,700.
Rounding out the top three was Singapore’s Ng Yen Pin with 127,100.
We managed to get the final pot that sent Pin’s stack storming upwards. Pin shipped all of a player’s stack with A♣ Q♣ winning the coin flip against 9♦ 9♥ on a running board Q♠ 7♣ 2♠ 7♦ 5♠. He would have probably gotten more had one player not folded pocket jacks. You can view the chip counts via the link below.
Among the notables also through to the next round were: Wenling Gao, Pete Chen, Luke Martinelli, Alex Lee, and Terry Fan. Day 1B survivors join the 35 qualifiers from Day 1A into Day 2. They do have a one day break before the next round with Day 1C coming up tomorrow, Saturday, February 23 at 1pm.
Day 1C is the last starting day to get in the Main Event and be part of the TWD 5 Million guaranteed prize pool. As it stands, 98 players are through to Day 2 with Manh Nguyen currently with the overall chip lead.
Hwang Sang Yeon wins the Head Hunter
The Head Hunter event attracted a triple digit field of 118 entrants with only 8 of them returning to today’s ultimate race. The money already flowed last night starting at 20th place which meant everyone left was guaranteed at least TWD 9,000. What they were all eyeing though was the title and the top prize.
During four-handed, short-stacked Hwang Sang Yeon paired both of his K-Q hole cards to crack Philip King Chun’s aces. With renewed life and extra ammo, Hwang brought it to heads up facing Chun for the title. Hwang had the edge but Chun put up a strong fight until he usurped the lead. With the tides reversed, Hwang challenged back and they evened up. A deal was then proposed. They split the prize money down the middle with around TWD 20,000 left to play for and the trophy. Hwang went on to win it and pocketed TWD 150,300. He also picked up another TWD 12,000 for his six bounties. Chun earned TWD 130,200 for runner-up.
