Martin Ryberg wins NLH One Day event

The NLH One Day event drew in 39 players to the APT felt for a meaty prize pool of PHP 567,400. Rising to the top and seizing the victory was Denmark’s Martin Ryberg who defeated Thailand’s Peerapong Jitwiwat at the final heads up round.

NLH One Day Event Champion, Martin Ryberg

Ryberg’s journey to the title had its challenges along the way. He entered the Final 8 in the bottom half of the rung, and with only five paid, he hung on patiently, randomly choosing spots to earn chips and avoid the blinds from gobbling up his short stack. When three short stacks were unable to hold on, he found himself in the money round but still at the bottom of the totem pole.

However, in poker, one hand can be your open road to the top. And that one hand was granted to Ryberg. He was all in with 10 10 and faced near elimination against Sung Ho Kim with J J. When the board ran 5 7 2 10 9, that lucky turn card saved Ryberg and he was awarded a double up. From there, he jumped to second rank right behind Peerapong Jitwiwat who he faced at the heads up round after the fall of Stephen Nathan, Kim, and Koji Takagi.

The final duel had Ryberg behind in chips to Jitwiwat but not long after he overtook him and the winning hand was soon delivered. Ryberg held pocket aces and defeated Jitwiwat with pocket eights. The Dane won the PHP 226,900 first place purse and ran away with the event trophy.
