HomeDay 2 of the APT Vietnam Main Event at the Ho Tram Resort Casino was nothing short of impressive as poker pros battled it out at every hand to gain control of their respective tables. At the end of tournament play, it was Peter Nguyen of the USA who amassed 352,000 worth of chips to become the day’s overwhelming chip leader.
Chip Leader Going Into Day 3 of the Main Event, Peter Nguyen
Nguyen began his day already up in the leader’s bracket, and he continued to accumulate more chips by eliminating several players along the way, including most notably, Yuri Ishida. As the day progressed, it was quite obvious to players that Nguyen was here to play some serious poker, getting himself in as many pots as possible, challenging players for every chip in the middle.
By dinner break, Nguyen held the chip lead, and escalated further towards the end of the night when he shaved a chunk off Erik Billgren’s stack with a full house over a higher full house. Full details can be found in the Live Reporting section.
Running second-in-command is Singaporean player Bryan Huang Diwei with 282,500. Huang collected a massive amount of chips when he ended South African player Marc Joseph’s day in the unfortunate bubble spot. Also high in the rung is Sunny Zhang with 243,000 chips. At the start of hand-for-hand, Zhang was the first to face possible elimination, but his big slick was good enough to double him up. From then on, he continued to seize many small pots until the bubble burst.
As there were qualifiers, so were there railbirds. Among those were poker pros Nam Le, Casey Kastle, Azusa Maeda, Flo Campomanes, and Khac Trung Tran.
