HomeDay 1b of the Main Event at the Asian Poker Tour Philippines 2016 saw 96 gunners take to the felt at Resorts World Manila. After eight hours of scheduled play, there were 68 left with Malaysian player Kah Boon Teh bagging the largest stack of 219,500 chips.
Main Event Day 1B Chip Leader, Kah Boon Teh
Teh seemed to be destined for the day 1b throne. His rise began when he eliminated Alan Ng halfway through the day. During the hand, Teh had A♠ A♥ and Ng with J♦ J♥. The flop was a scare for Teh as it ran J♣ K♥ 7♦ giving Ng the lead with a set, but with the turn of 10♥ and river of Q♣, justice was restored and he won with a straight.
Later, Teh earned another pot when he eliminated Korea’s John Kim with a full house over a straight. The hand that sent Teh past the 200k mark was when he cracked Hung Tu Wang’s A♦ A♥ with his J♥ 7♥ flush on a board of 5♥ K♥ 9♦ 3♥ 8♣.
Coming in second in command today was Korean Seung Soo Jeon with 194,500 chips. Jeon picked up a nice pile of chips during the final few hands of the night when his small pair improved to a winning full house. Running third in chips was another Korean player, Changhun Lee. Lee was very active all day and earned himself a big double up when he was pushed all in by Edilberto Gopez. He called with second pair and from then on, he didn’t look back. Nearing the end of the day, Lee eliminated a player with his dominating full house.
Previous APT champions who also survived day 1b were Japan’s Gerard Bringley with 146,900 chips, UK’s Alex Ward with 138,400 chips, Singapore’s Lim Yah Loon with 100,100 chips, Filipino pro Mike Takayama with 72,200 chips, Filipino player Czardy Rivera with 61,900 chips, and another Filipino pro, John Tech with 17,100 chips.
Also joining the leaders and the past champions at the end of the night were Vietnam’s Julien Tran, Korean Simba Jae Kyung, Japan’s Tetsuya Tsuchikawa, Norway’s Kai Paulsen, Malaysia’s Victor Chong, Taiwan’s Terry Fan, India’s Dhaval Mudgal, and Filipino player Lester Edoc.
