Main Event Begins in Cebu: Cards Fly for Day 1A Today

The highlight event of the APT Asian Poker Series Cebu 2015 will start today at the All In Poker Sports Club at the Waterfront Hotel & Casino in Cebu City, Philippines as Day 1A of the Main Event begins play starting at 1:00PM. With the first three days of the nine-day poker festivities having a good turnout, expectations are that the attendance for the main will challenge or even go over the number set the last time the APT was in town.

Last year, the APT Asian Series Cebu Main Event attracted 299 runners. This will also the first time in years that an APT main event will have three starting days; after today’s Day 1A, Day 1B and Day 1C is also scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, respectively. The change is just one of the many innovations for this season of the APT including upping the Asian Series main event levels from 45 minutes to a full hour— an additional 15 minutes/level for the players who want to see more action on the felt.

I have the overs in the Main, which last year had 299 entries,” APT Tournament Director Lloyd Fontillas confidently stated earlier this week. “But even though we don’t beat that number? 100 per cent this event will be a great one and will be talked about.

Present is the always-strong contingent from Japan led by APT regulars and constant in-the-money winners Tetsuya Tsuchikawa, Azusa Maeda, Yo Doi, Jun Saito and other top Japanese players.

Of course, the local players from Cebu, Manila and from around the Philippines are also expected to battle for the title with the likes of Mike Takayama, Ian Marcos, Andrew Gaw and Flo Campomanes among the Filipinos seen. Other top players in the APT circuit who are expected to play are three-time APT Player of the Year (POY) Sam Razavi (United Kingdom), Norbert Koh (Singapore), Kai Paulsen (Norway), Andrew Nguyen (United States) and Ricky Crandell (United States), among many others.

Also on tap today is the side event which is rising in popularity, the Open Face Chinese (OFC) Pineapple event with a PHP 8,800 buy-in set at 3:00 PM. Main Event mega satellite (PHP 5,500) is also available at 6:00 PM. For full details, check Events and Schedule page.
