Brent Schlaadt of New Zealand opened the action pre-flop with a 1,325 bet but an opponent sitting beside him made it 3,500, which the Kiwi easily called.
Schlaadt fired another 6,000 on the flop 7♦ 8♦ 2♣ and his opponent responded by shoving his stack. Schlaadt tabled his A♦ 8♠ and made the call only to be shown the bad news by the opponent’s pocket queens.
No change on the turn 10♦ but it did give the New Zealander additional outs– a diamond would give him a runner-runner flush. No diamond on the river but it was an 8♣ for trips– good enough to beat the ladies of the opponent, who couldn’t believe at the turn of events.
Schlaadt climbed to around 35,000 after the hand.
