With roughly an 8000 pot splashed in the middle of the felt, Hoang Ton Nguyen bet 3950 on a board showing K♠ K♦ 8♥ A♦ 7♣ sending Gerard Bringley tanking. Bringley eventually called and Nguyen won with his K♥ Q♠. Bringley mucked.
On a board of 7♦ 9♠ 5♣ 2♦, Richard Marquez (Philippines) fired 3,400 to the middle but faced a raise to roughly 9,000 from his Taiwanese opponent, Leon Lita Hsu. Marquez tanked for a bit but eventually made the call to bring the river J♦.
Hsu, who covered Marquez by a mile, shoved and got the call from Marquez who was shown A♣ A♦, an apparent bad news for the Filipino who mucked his hand and slowly walked away.
One Malaysian lady is one of our chip leaders so far in this Day 1A. Her latest victory added some more to her already big stack.
Christine Hia saw one player opened to 600 preflop and she responded by doubling it up to 1,200. The opponent called to bring the flop 6♥ 10♣ 4♣ and was checked by the initial bettor. Hia fired 2,000 and sent her opponent to the tank.
The opponent folded and Hia showed everyone that he had pocket kings. Hia climbed to over 60,000– triple the starting stack– at this point of the tournament.
On a raised pot of 4000 preflop and a board showing 7♣ 6♣ 7♦, three players checked their option to see a free turn of 8♥. At this point, action changed with sb player Si Yang betting 2600 which induced a fold in the mp player Michael Falcon but a raise to 5500 by the button player Joven Huerto. Yang called and the dealer completed the board with a river card of J♦. Yang quickly announced all in covering Huerto’s remaining stack. Huerto tanked for a short bit then made the call. Yang showed his J♥ J♠ full house and with that, Huerto frustratingly mucked and packed up to leave.
Short-stacked Brent Schlaadt shoved with his remaining 3000+ chips and was called by a player on the big blind seat.
BB: A♣ J♦
Schlaadt: A♠ 5♦
With the board running 8♥ 6♥ 8♣ 9♦ 7♦, Schlaadt got a lucky break with a straight. He doubled up and now has around 7000 chips.
Looking for a nice double-up and moving all-in pre-flop with his pocket kings, Vincent Rubianes is instead ousted when a Japanese opponent called with pocket tens and found a set on a board of 3♦ 7♦ 8♣ 10♦ Q♥.
Day 1A field is now at 105 entries. Those numbers should climb as we near the end of registration which is set at the end of Level 6 or roughly an hour from now.
