After 6 hours at the felt, Day 2 ended with 36 players returning tomorrow. High up on the rung is Mike Takayama with 529,000 chips followed by Norbert Koh with 445,000. Congratulations to the qualifiers! Everyone is now in the money. See you tomorrow!
Martin Corpuz was the unlucky player who bubbled out of the Main Event. It was Chung Fai Ngeow who delivered the fatal blow to Corpuz. During the hand, Corpuz was all in with two players calling, Ngeow and Dave Fish.
Flop: 10♠ 5♠ 4♦
Ngeow slid out 40500 for a side pot with Wunschel, but after several minutes of tanking, Wunschel opted to fold while exposing his 10♦ top pair. His fold was a good one because when Ngeow faced off against Corpuz for the main pot, this was his hand
Ngeow: A♦ A♥
Corpuz: 9♣ 9♥
With the turn of 6♣ and river of J♠, Corpuz was out in 37th place.
Mike Takayama and Paul Cohan were in preflop against Tu Anh. The pot was now wieghing down the middle with 100K worth of chips. At the flop of 2♣ 6♦ 5♦, both checked. At the turn of 4♥, check again. Then on the river of A♠, Takayama slid out a 15K bet for a side pot which Cohan flat-called. Takayama won the side pot with A♣ 5♣ two pairs against Cohan’s A♦ Q♣ top pair, and took the main pot when Anh mucked and left.
It seemed like it was gonna be a three way all in but Paul Cohan, who has been having quite an up and down swing all day, faced Terence Lai and Si Yang’s all in. Cohan had them covered but opted to fold.
Lai: A♦ A♠
Yang: J♣ J♦
With the board running J♥ 8♠ 3♠ Q♥ K♠, Lai’s aces were cracked and his chips dwindled to only 20,500.
On the very next hand, Lai moved all in, Yang made it 50K to go, but bb player Hyunshik Yun increased it further to make it 95K. Assessing his stack, Yang opted to surrender his hand and it was heads up between Lai and Yun.
Lai: 8♠ 6♠
Yun: Q♦ Q♣
The board ran blanks K♠ 8♣ 9♣ 9♠ 3♥ and Yun won the pot while Lai left the scene.
Raiden Kan shoved preflop and got one caller from the blinds.
Kan: A♦ 5♦
Opponent: A♥ K♥
Flop K♠ 8♦ 6♦ gave Kan new outs but the turn 6♥ paired the board negating the river diamond K♦ as Kan’s opponent had full house to his nut flush.
With a the flop 7♠ A♠ Q♦ already tabled a player went all in and was snap-called by Euryd Rivera.
Rivera: A♦ 10♣
Opponent: A♣ 6♣
No miracle turn J♠ or savior river 2♠ and another short stack bites the dust.
Huy Pham opened with a standard 11,000 and was called by Chow Mun Fei of Malaysia. Flop A♦ Q♥ 9♦ arrived and this time it was Mun Fei who led out for 15,000. Pham quickly folded.
Kodai Ishihara (Japan) shoved and found a caller in John Tech (Philippines)
It’s a race for Ishihara’s tournament life.
Ishihara: 3♣ 3♦
Tech: A♦ K♣
The window card was the K♠ but the 3♦ J♥ completed the flop to give Ishihara the set. Totally safe turn 6♣ and river 10♣ and Ishihara hangs on and doubles up to around 170,000.
