Day 1A chip leader Joseph Talamayan faced off against Day 1C chip leader Truong Vu Tran Khanh. Talamayan needed some help with 7♦ 7♥ against Truong’s 10♥ 10♠. The gods of poker answered his call with a set on the flop 9♠ A♥ 7♠ to overtake, and turn A♣ to improve to a full house. However, with the river landing A♠, Talamayan was denied by Truong’s higher full house and was eliminated. Truong climbed to 400k.
The only two ladies left in the Main Event went head to head. Chip leader Hue Dang with A-5 challenged Corine Shi’s A-J. A five spiked the flop and held to the end. Dang shipped it to rise to 755k while Shi shipped out.
Benjamin Schoepfer announced all in and was snap called by the player to his immediate left, Sunwoo Hoo. To his dismay, his 8♦ 8♥ was way behind Hoon’s A♣ A♥, and with the board offering no help, Hoon doubled up to 208k. Schoepfer is down to 30k (6 BB).
Entering with the second largest stack, Florencio Campomanes quickly put on the pressure. His first clash was with Pham Minh Tuan whose pocket Jacks held over pocket Fours. Campomanes dropped to around 380K. Not long after, he was in another big pot, this time against Ngo Minh Tien. Last night, bot players faced off that led to a double up to Campomanes when he spiked the full house on the turn.
In this hand, Campomanes got the better of Tien again. On a raised pot preflop, the cards came 2♠ J♣ 10♠, lo-jack Tien led for 50k, hijack Campomanes called. On the turn 9♠, action swithced up. Tien check-called a 40k bet. The river 9♣ saw Campomanes send out 40k again, Tien flat-called. Campomanes showed Q♠ J♠ to claim the pot. He is back up to 465k, Tien plunged to 56k.
Cuy Thai Thinh put Do Viet Phuong in the hot box with A♦ K♥ challenging Phuong’s all in K♠ K♦. The board offered no bad beats for the first double up of Day 3. He now has 165k, Thinh dropped to 210k.
And they’re off! Cards are flying here at Day 3 of the Main Event! The final 47 players are back in their seats, each one gunning for a piece of the VN₫ 5,499,900,000 (~US$ 240,160) prize pool and a spot at the Final Table of 8. The money starts at 38 places. The event drew 378 entries at buy in of VN₫ 16,500,000 (~US$ 721). Here’s a look at the payouts.
Entering with the mightiest stack is Vietnam’s Hue Dang, one of only two ladies that made it through. Super High Roller champion Florencio Campomanes is running a strong second rank, and rounding out the top three is Yuji Yamahsita just 1.5 blinds behind Campomanes. The race is on! Good luck to all!
