Day 1a of the Main Event is over with 42 players surviving the day. The top three leaders are Van Sang Nguyen with 195,400, Dhanesh Chainani with 182,900, and Rodolfo Feliciano with 174,400. We will have a recap for you shortly.


Okada avoids the rail, triples up

Level: 8 Blinds: 500-1000 Ante: 100

Ken Okada moved all in with his 19.3k short stack and JC Sayo, recent winner of the Head Hunter event, called. Next player to act was Byung Il Park who went all in covering Sayo’s stack. After the blinds folded, action was back at Sayo who seemed visibly challenged by the shove. Sayo eventually folded and it was a showdown.

The board ran 10 7 Q 10 6 and with his low pair the better hand, Okada tripled up.


Feliciano gets hit twice, Lubas and Ishibashi win pots

Level: 8 Blinds: 500-1000 Ante: 100

Rodolfo Feliciano is the next chip leader to get hit. On a board of 4 6 5, Jay Lubas checked to Feliciano who bet 8k. Lubas came out strong with a check-raise to 25k, Feliciano called. On the turn of K, Lubas moved all in for 25.6k and Feliciano gave up his hand.

Feliciano lost another pot, this time to Tsuyoshi Ishibashi. On a flop of 6 A 9, Feliciano bet 5300, and Ishbashi called. On the turn of 3, both players checked. On the river of 5, Feliciano jumped out with a 10k bet and was called by Ishibashi.

Khoo eliminated by Nguyen

It was a preflop all in moment with Kenneth Khoo holding A 10 and Van Sang Nguyen with Q J. The board ran K K Q 9 2 and with Khoo with less chips, he was eliminated.


Bonanno shoves for the pot

With one limper creeping in, Jim Bonanno raised to 6k and got called. The flop ran 2 7 6, action was checked to Bonanno who went all in. No call.


Patni not afraid of the big stack

Level: 8 Blinds: 500-1000 Ante: 100

With 18k already weighing down the middle of the felt, Rodolfo Feliciano and Kunal Patni stared down a flop of 7 8 5. Patni checked to Feliciano who bet the pot of 18k. Patni shoved for an additional 28.6k for Feliciano to call. Feliciano folded.


Nonstop bets for Lee

The last level of the day has started and Alex Lee eagerly vies for a pot. On a board of J K 7, Lee bet 2600 and Linh Tran called. On the turn of 8, Lee bet 6k and Tran called. On the river of Q, Lee made it 20k, and this time Tran let him have it.


What a call! Degracia vs Hanwool

Level: 7 Blinds: 400-800 Ante: 100

This was one interesting hand that gets you to wonder how the call could have been made. On a board of 4 K 2, Jang Hanwool bet 4800 and Toniyoung Degracia called. On the turn of 4, Hanwool bet 6400 and again Degracia called. Then the river landed 2 and Hanwool checked. Degracia bet 15k, and Hanwool thought about it then slid out the call. Degracia had Q 3 and Hanwool with 8 5. They both played the board and split the pot.


Degracia plummets, Hanwool and Marcos capitalize

Toniyoung Degracia massive stack just got a shaving in two separate hands, one against Jang Hanwool and the other against Ian Marcos.

On the first encounter, the flop was 2 6 5. She bet 5500 and Hanwool called. On the turn of 3, Degracia bet 10k, Hanwool raised to 25k, and Degracia called. On the river of 2, Degracia slid out 25k, and Hanwool flat-called.

On the next hand, Marcos limped in, Hanwool raised to 2500, Degracia and the bb player called. Action moved back to Marcos who three-bet to 12.5k. Degracia called and the rest folded.

At the flop of 2 10 7, Marcos continued and led out for 16.1k. Degracia shoved her massive stack and Marcos called with his 65.1k stack.

The turn of 6 and river of 4 were no help to Degracia and Marcos shipped in a huge double up. Degracia fell to 85k.
