Choong Kian Weng is doing his best to distance himself from the rest and with his two recent wins, he has now soared to 1.6m in chips.
On the first hand, he three-bet Kilian Loeffler’s 41k bet to make it 102k to go. Loeffler called. From there, it was obvious that someone was going to win a huge pot. At the 3♥ 7♦ 10♥ flop, Weng continued with a 65k bet and Loeffler matched him up. On the 4♦ turn, both checked. But on the 10♦ river, action picked up with Loeffler taking the reins with a 167k bet. Weng called.
Loeffler 8♦ 8♥
Weng J♠ J♥ higher pocket pair
The next hand Weng was up against Saul Oliver who raised to 40k. Weng answered with a 102k three-bet and got the call. At the flop of 9♣ 8♥ 2♦, Weng led out for 120k and won it with Oliver bowing out of the hand.
Choong Kian Weng was involved in the next two hands. He called a raise by Saul Oliver to protect his big blind. At the flop 3♥ 9♥ 7♥, he led for 40k and Oliver called. On the A♦ turn, he bet it and won it before the count with Oliver folding up.
The next hand, Weng called a 35k bet by Hajime Iwakura and the flop ran 2♠ 3♦ 6♥. Weng checked, Iwakura bet 50k, and Weng called. On the 2♥ turn both players checked and as well on the J♠ river. Weng showed his 9♥ 9♦ pair but with Iwakura turning over A♣ J♥ he won with top pair.
Iwakura now at 460k.
Immediately after losing a sizable chunk to Dang Van Hien, Saul Oliver got involved in the next pot, this time against Xu Dong Hui. In a battle of the blinds, Oliver limped in and Hui checked.
On the Q♥ K♦ Q♦ flop and Q♠ turn, there was no action but on the 2♣ river, Oliver laid out a 25k bet and Hui called. Oliver quickly mucked without having a look at Hui’s hand.
Hui stil very short but now up to 195k.
Dang Van Hien is in full control here at the Final 8. He won another sizable pot to drive his stack to over 1.4M. He min-raised to 32k and Saul Oliver joined him to the flop. The spread came 5♦ 6♦ A♥, Oliver checked, Dang bet 50k, and it was called. On the 6♣ turn, action was the same with Oliver check-calling a 8? river, both players gave the checkmark.
Oliver A♠ 10♠ top pair but it was still behind Dang’s A♦ K♣ top pair higher kicker.
Shravan Chhabria recently lost a sizable portion of his short stack and proceeded to lose a little more. From the big blind seat, he called a 40k raise by utg player Saul Oliver. At the flop J♣ J♠ 4♦, he checked to the raiser then folded when a 50k bet slid out.
Chhabria down to 120k.
Big stacks Saul Oliver and Kilian Loeffler meet again. Oliver raised to 40k on the utg+1 seat and Loeffler defended his big blind with a call. At the flop 5♦ 2♣ 3♣, it was checked, on the 3♥ turn more checking, but on the 2♥ river, Loeffler slid out 160k inducing a snap-fold from Oliver.
Dang Van Hien has taken over the chip leader’s status after banking it on this hand. It began with a 40k raise by Shravan Chhabria and Dang called. At the J♣ 10♠ A♣ flop, both players checked. On the 8♠ turn, Dang led for 40k and Chhabria tossed in the call. On the 5♠ river, Dang pumped it up further with a 100k bet and Chhabria took the bait.
