At Table 24, there was quite a bit of head chopping action with Hajime Iwakura putting the doorstop on past APT Main Event champion Linh Tran. We didn’t catch Tran’s hand but it seemed Iwakura’s pocket tens were good for the win.
Zhong Yuan Hang did the same by eliminating Liu He to bring his stack to around 220k.
Huidong Guo and Wang Ye tangoed preflop that led to both players shoving their stacks in. When the cards were turned up, both and pocket aces. The board produced nothing dramatic and they took their chips back in.
It was a three-way showdown with Tetsuya Tsuchikawa with the largest stack between them.
Reagan Leman 8-8
Tsuchikawa Q-Q
Ian Brion K-K
The board dropped a queen on the turn and it was a bang-bang double bust. Tsuchikawa jumps to around 160k.
Hajime Iwakura joins the big stack crew. He eliminated Yang Fan to drive his stack to around 280k. On a flop of A♦ 7♦ 8♣, Iwakura laid out a bet and was called by two players in the hand with him. The turn K♣ saw Iwakura continue. He bet 20k and got one caller in Fan. On the river 4♦, Iwakura slid out 18k only to face an all in from Fan. Iwakura called and showed his 7♦ 7♣ set. Fan quickly mucked and left the scene.
At the end of this hand, Michael Soyza commented, “I was drawing dead at the flop” and then chuckled. The hand between him and cutoff player Saul Oliver began with a series of raises and re-raises preflop with Soyza finally calling on the button position. At the flop of A♣ A♥ J♦, Oliver led for 16k onto a pot of around 47k. Soyza flat-called. On the Q♥ turn, Oliver checked, Soyza bet 25k, and Oliver smooth-called. On the 4♥ river, both players checked and Oliver revealed his A♠ A♦ quads.
Oliver at 160k, Soyza dropped to 185k.
The day’s entering chip leaders are faring well, most especially the Yang Song who has driven his stack even further up. He now has well over 300K.
As for Peng Fei Liu, he ousted Ni Xiang Xiang who had a healthy stack. We didn’t get to see Xiang’s hand as he mucked when he saw Peng’s J-10 full house. Peng nears 300K.
Choong Kian Weng has won a couple of small pots to bring him up a little from when he started the day. He has around 230K.
Another wave of bust outs here at the Main Event bringing us quickly down to 63 players from the 75 that started the day. Here are some of those recent fallouts:
Table 9: Michael Soyza eliminated Ken Foo Hsien Loong – we missed the action but Soyza had pocket kings. Loong had about the same stack as Soyza, both well above average. With Soyza shipping it in, he climbed to around 240k.
Table 25: Nishant Sharma is raking it in. He eliminated another player, this time the casualty was Yongbin Wang. The all in was on the river 8♠ 9♠ 6♦ 5♠ A♠. Sharma showed 7♦ 7♣ for a straight over Wang’s 9♥ 10♥ top pair. Sharma over 235K.
Table 22: Zurvan Tumboli sent Vincent Li Kwun Ngai packing early with pocket sevens winning the J-10 coin flip. Tumboli nears 220K.
As soon as the cards were in the air, it was non stop all in with the short stacks risking it for a double up. Five players quickly lost that battle while at one of the tables, Liao Huiqiao celebrated a triple up. It was a three-way showdown:
Liao: A♦ 10♦
Nishant Sharma: A♥ A♠
Ben Lai: A♣ K♥
The board spread 6♦ 8♥ J♣ 7♦ 2♦ giving Lia the nut flush, Sharma took the bigger side pot while eliminating Lai. Liao climbed to starting stack of 50K and Sharma rose to 160K.
Cards are now in the air for Day 2 of the APT Main Event! The 75 remaining players are scheduled to battle it out for another eight rounds of sixty minutes each. We will be updating you on the action right here in the Live Updates section.
