APT Kickoff Vietnam 2018 Main Event

REMINDER: Warning issued for soft playing

APT Executive Tournament Director Lloyd Fontillas issued a warning to two players for checking down (soft playing) a hand. This was brought to his attention and apparently it wasn’t the first time players noticed the friendly playing. While we understand that friends could be tabled together, soft playing is not part of the game. A second warning will lead to disqualification.

SJ Kim rails Johannes Felix Hold

Level: 20 Blinds: 8000-16000 Ante: 2000

Johannes Felix Hold put his tournament life on the line with A-4 but couldn’t get past big stacked SJ Kim who had A-7. The board came 7-J-2-K-7.

A couple of preflop raise wars that didn’t see a shove

Level: 20 Blinds: 8000-16000 Ante: 2000

There were several hands we happened to catch with players on a preflop war that surprisingly didn’t see a showdown. At one table, SJ Kim had 110k in front of him while Nguyen Trung Hieu had 225k. Kim folded.

Several tables over, Pham Van Trung raised (though we missed the amount), Siyoung Lee three bet to 350k, Trung re-raised to 703k, and Lee was forced to fold with time called. Trung now up to 1.3M.

Hoang Duc Cong and Quan Nguyen: set over set

Level: 20 Blinds: 8000-16000 Ante: 2000

Table 17 has got to be the most action-packed felt. Every time we pass by, someone is all in. This is also the table where Dong Anh Dung did his cleaning out of three players to soar to over 2M.

During this hand, Hoang Duc Cong and Quan Nguyen faced off.

Hoang K-K
Quan J-J

A jack showed up in the window but right underneath was a king. Both players had a set and Hoang had the better spread. Quan was out shortly after with Harry Duong finishing him off.

Tan Tai Dinh climbs to 1.3M, rails Nguyen Van Phinh

Level: 20 Blinds: 8000-16000 Ante: 2000

We’ve seen several players now in the million range with Tan Tai Dinh now joining that crew after eliminating Nguyen Van Phinh.

Dinh Q Q
Nguyen A K

The board ran low and the ladies held their strong position for Dinh to ship it and Nguyen the boot.

Le Hai Anh ends his run at the hands of Kwun Wong

Level: 19 Blinds: 6000-12000 Ante: 2000

Day 1A chip leader Lei Hai Anh has been eliminated from the Main Event. He was at risk with A-Q against Kwun Wong’s A-K with the board running low.

Harry Duong rails one

Level: 19 Blinds: 6000-12000 Ante: 2000

Harry Duong got the best of a short stacked player who had it all in with A 10. Duong had Q 9 which the board favored with it running Q J 9 6 3.

Big stacks battle! Dong Anh Dung knocks out Van Ngoc Binh, catapults to 2.4M

Level: 18 Blinds: 5000-10000 Ante: 1000

Massive stacked Dong Anh Dung hadn’t even finished arranging his chips having just eliminated Eugene Co and Samad Razavi. He joined button player Van Ngoc Binh in calling Harry Duong’s 24k preflop raise.

At the flop 5 K 8, Dung checked, Duong bet 45k, and Binh moved all in with his enormous 1M stack. This seemed to give Dung something to think about as he put on his shades and tanked for a minute. He then moved all in and Duong got out of the way.

Binh 8 4 flush draw mid pair
Dung 5 5 set

The turn Q and river J didn’t improve Binh and his seven digit stack was shipped to Dung.

Dung is now the overwhelming chip leader with 2.4M. There are 79 remaining.

Double elimination! Dong Anh Dung rails Eugene Co and Samad Razavi

Level: 18 Blinds: 5000-10000 Ante: 1000

A wild and crazy hand went down at table 17 with three players with premium hands you would’ve thought this was a scene from Casino Royale. The hand kicked off with Eugene Co raising to 23k. He was called by three players, Samad Razavi, sb Van Ngoc Binh, and bb Dong Anh Dung.

At the flop K 4 K, action was checked around to Razavi who slid out a 30k bet. He was called by Dung and Co while Binh folded. On the 5 turn, Dung bet 75k, Co moved all in with his 286k, Razavi followed suit with slightly over 300k, and Dung called while having both players well covered.

Co A J nut flush
Razavi 5 5 full house
Dung K 4 higher full house

The river 6 completed the board and Dung amassed 1.4M while knocking out two players in the process.
