Michael Tchong checked the flop 9♠ A♣ 3♣ and saw Ian Brion bet 1,350. Tchong made it 3,500 and Brion called to bring the turn 5♣. Both Tchong and Brion checked and the river 9♦ landed. Tchong opened this time, to 4,375, and Brion called.
Tchong showed 7♣ 6♣ for a turned flush and Brion mucked his hand.
Last level of the day! As always, we expect the short stacks to take more risks at this point of the tournament. 95 left says the big board, let’s see how many can survive the eighth level (250/500/50) and enter Day 2 tomorrow.
With a pot of roughly 18,000 on a board of J♦ 10♠ 4♠ 5♣ A♣, Dhaval Mutgal checked and saw Michael Falcon 10,100. Mutgal couldn’t commit himself to call and gave up the pot to Falcon, who has now over 70,000.
Jeffrey Kat with K♠ J♠ has just ousted Ha Duong, who shoved with 2♣ 2♠. Board read 3♣ 10♠ J♥ 8♠ A♠ and that’s all she wrote for Ha Duong in this main event. Kat has now around 30,000.
A total of 98 players qualified from Day 1A and Day 1B. 99 out of 142 remain so far in Day 1C with about one and a half levels to go.
Joshua Chiew over-bet 3,500 on a pot of 2,000 on the board 7♦ A♠ 7♠ 5♦ K♥. This put his opponent, Czardy Rivera in a conundrum: Why didn’t he bet value if he has a great hand? Why over-bet on the river?
Ultimately, Rivera decided to call and find out why.
Chiew had a legit hand: A♦ 7♥ and Rivera’s K♣ 9♣ just won’t cut it. Rivera drops to about 10,000 and Chiew now has roughy 35,000.
On the flop 6♦ 10♣ 2♦, Peng Mendoza shoved his final 7,600 and got a call from In Chul Shin.
Mendoza: A♥ A♣
Shin: 10♠ J♦
Turn: Q♦
River: 5♦
And it’s a runner-runner flush for Shin! And that, is not how you want to end your main event run.
On a board of 6♠ 7♣ 7♠ 7♦ J♠ and a raised pot, Yuki Yoshii bet 6,500 to force Ken Garcia to the tank. Garcia did call and could only shake his head: Yoshii tabled 7♥ 3♠ for the unbeatable quads as Garcia mucked. Yoshii climbed to 38,000 after this hand.
APT tournament director Lloyd Fontillas just announced that Day 1C of the main event have 140 players. The staff will double-check the numbers but it appears that will be the final number, or near to it. That amounts to over PHP 15M prize pool when added from the 107 and 92 runners from Day 1A and Day 1B, respectively.
