Lawrie Gibson bet 6,100 on the flop K♣ 6♠ 9♣ but saw Christopher Mateo re-pop it to 31,000. Gibson shoved (33,000) and Mateo called.
Gibson: A♠ K♠
Mateo: 6♣ 8♣
Gibson needed to avoid a club, six or eight; and the 8♥ appeared on the turn! However, the river 9♠ landed and Gibson made his own two pair to counterfeit Mateo’s.
Mateo has now around 20,000 while Gibson stacks up over 77,000.
On the flop 6♠ 2♦ 4♣, Lester Edoc check-called Jae Chang’s 2,600 bet. Edoc led out on the turn 5♣ for 2,800 and Chang called. On the river 2♠, Edoc check-called again on Chang’s 9,000 bet.
Chang shows 6♣ 3♣ while Edoc mucked his hand. Edoc dropped to 11,000 and Chang climbed to 55,000.
With the community 4♥ 6♦ 7♦ A♥ already on the board, the player from the big blind bet 20,000 to send Tyrone Smith to the tank. Smith, who had 9,225 left, eventually called and tabled K♠ K♦ and was trailing the BB player’s 6♣ 4♣. As justice would have it, the river 7♥ counterfeited Smith’s two pair and he wins the pot. Smith survives and still has around 25,000.
Three-way all-in between Martin Gonzales, Hideki Takafuji and Tommy Strom.
Takafuji: A♠ J♥
Strom: J♦ Q♦
Martin Gonzales: A♣ A♦
On the flop Q♣ 10♣ 8♣, Gonzales still trailed but it gave new outs to both Takafuji and Strom. The turn Q♠ did give Strom his two pairs but the river K♣ gave the lead back to Gonzales, who made the flush.
Strom dropped to 20,000, Gonzales climbs to 55,000 and Takafuji is out of Day 1B.
Jake Nguyen bet 1,000 on a flop of 3♠ 8♠ 9♦ but saw Kim Enriquez double it to 2,000. Nguyen called to bring the turn 7♦. Nguyen check-called Enriquez’s 4,175 bringing the river 3♦. Nguyen checked his option again and Enriquez fired a bigger 10,175– just too much for Nguyen, who folded and gave up the pot to Enriquez.
Martin Gonzales, waking up with the Big Chick A♦ Q♦, moved all-in and found a caller. The Filipino pro won and doubled-up to around 20,000– or the starting stack in this main event.
Pre-flop all-in with the Bullets for Jun Saito and he found a caller. Easy double up to around 15,000 as the aces can’t be cracked in this one.
Jeon Seung Soo opened to 900 preflop and got a re-popped by Linh Tran to 2,200. Not to be outdone, Jeon answereed with a three-bet to 6,500, which Tran called.
Flop: 2♦ K♠ 4♦
On the turn Q♦ Jeon shoved and got called by Tran!
Jeon: Q♠ 10♣
Tran: A♥ A♣
Jeon gets eliminated in Day 1B as Tran, thanks to his Bullets, reach the 100K-chip mark.
In the one of the first hands post-dinner, Alex Lee got the boot! We don’t know what happened exactly but we saw him lead the tournament area even when most still had yet to settle back in their seats.
