On a board of A♦ 5♣ 5♦ 7♦ 2♠, veteran pro Martin Corpuz fired a pot-size 10,000 to the middle to send his opponent deep into the tank. Corpuz’s opponent eventually folded and Corpuz did him a favor (or did not) by showing one card, 6♥.
Pot of over 5,000 and a board of K♣ 6♠ 3♥ J♥ saw Kenneth Anzano open to 1,500 and got a call from two players including Jun Javalera.
Both Anzano and the other player checked the river 9♥ but Javalera took a stab at the pot with 4,000. Anzano tanked and called while the other player folded. Javalera shows K♦ 9♦ for two pairs and Anzano mucked his hand.
On the flop 5♠ 3♣ 3♦, SJ Kim opened to 800 and got a call from Amit Ajwani only to see the player from the small blind re-raise it to 1,800. Kim got out of the way but Ajwani wanted to see the turn.
3♠
The SB player led out this time, to 3,500, which was called by Ajwani.
Both players checked the river J♠ and the small blind player tabled pocket sixes– not enough to beat Ajwani’s pocket eights and he takes down another pot.
Down to two players in the Head Hunters side event. The title for the bounty-flavored tournament is up for grabs between APT regular Jojo Tech (Philippines) and You Hui (China).
A middle position player limped into the pot and saw short-stacked Gary Thompson shove his final 2,825. Andrew Nguyen called and so did the limper.
The MP player check-called Nguyen’s 1,800 bet on the flop 4♥ 6♣ Q♠ but check-folded Nguyen’s 2,800 bet on the turn.
Nguyen: A♠ A♣
Thompson: 6♥ 6♦
River 7♠ was safe for Thompson and he triples up to around 9,000.
After the quick break, Andrew Nguyen got lucky on a board of 6♦ 4♠ 2♠ 5♣ 3♦ holding pocket sevens for the straight. Nguyen won the 7,000+ pot against Michael Falcon, who had was ahead up until the turn with 5♠ 6♠.
First break of the day! Quick 10 minutes for our Day 1A contenders.
Feng Zhao opened preflop to 300 and Due Diong “Jerry” Bui beside him flat-called. The player from the small blind re-raised to 1,300 and both Zhao and Bui made the call.
All three checked the flop 9♥ Q♦ 3♥ and on the turn Q♣ Zhao led out for 1,500. Bui called and the small blind got out of the way.
River 3♣ arrived and Zhao continued his story for 3,575. Snap call from Bui for the showdown:
Zhao: J♣ J♦
Bui: 2♠ 3♠
In a cross between disgust and appreciation, Zhao nodded his head to his opponent, who won the nice big pot playing rag hands.
Kosei Ichinose was down to roughly 4,000 and shoved with Q♣ Q♦ and got a qucik call from Marcus Liow, who had 10♥ 10♣.
Dealer boards J♦ 8♥ 6♠ J♣ 7♦ and no ten means Ichinose survives.
