HomeIt was a bustling opening day at the Asian Poker Tour Experience Manila 2016 with many players coming out for the P1M Guaranteed Welcome Event at the APT Poker Room located inside the Waterfront Manila Pavilion Hotel and Casino. By the end of both qualifying flights, there were a total of 230 entries, bringing the prize pool to P1,338,600, well exceeding the guarantee.
Flight A Recap
Flight A Chip Leader, Jae Wook Shin
Flight A took off at 1pm with eager players quickly filling up the tables. By the end of late registration / re-entry, there were 128 entries, giving a clear indication that the P1M guarantee would be easily surpassed on the next flight. At the end of the scheduled thirteen rounds, there were 28 players remaining with five of them crossing the six-digit chip mark. Owning the leader’s seat was Korea’s Jae Wook Shin with 184,800 chips. Shin accumulated several big pots before the final hour and then surged even higher when he eliminated Filipino pro John Tech with his 3♠ 3♥ on a board that ran J♠ 9♠ 7♠ 3♣ A♠. Coming in second was Filipino player Aristotle Sigua with 149,000 chips. For Korea’s Youngsub Song who ended the day with 141,800 chips, and China’s Yao Hui who ended with 140,300 chips, both of these players were the leaders for most of the day, maintaining their high status all the way to bagging time. Rounding out the top five was USA’s Nick Gorman with 123,600 chips. Other notable players who also survived Flight A were Japan’s Iori Yogo, Korea’s SJ Kim, Singapore’s Lim Yah Loon, and Filipino John Sayo.
Flight B Recap
Flight B Chip Leader, Jeorge Lagatuz
Flight B of the P1M Guaranteed Welcome Event saw 102 entries, and when combined with Flight A, this was more than enough to meet and exceed the proposed guarantee. There were 25 players remaining at the end of regulation play with Filipino Jeorge Lagatuz claiming the chip leader’s seat. Lagatuz already sported a big stack at the tenth round and kept himself on a steady incline through the rest of the day to bag up 157,500 chips. Taking the second spot was Malaysia’s Adimus Putra who accumulated a massive stack prior to the last level of the day but then lost a series of pots to finish with 141,800 chips. Other players who crossed the six-digit chip mark were Filipino player Edilberto Gopez with 118,400 chips, and Taiwan’s Wang Ping Yuan with 116,600 chips. Several notables who also survived the night were Filipino player Euryd Rivera, Japan’s Yoichi Uesugi, and Korea’s John Kim and Lim Yo Hwan.
