Justin Worth and Czar Ian Marcos win trophies; Championships Event Day 1B recap

Three events were up and running today at the APT Philippines Championships 2018 in Resorts World Manila with the Championships Event Day 1B as the main feature followed by two of our fun-filled side events, the Super Deep Stack Turbo and the Deep Stack Turbo. We’ve got those results for you below.

We would like to remind everyone that we are on a break tomorrow to observe Good Friday, a religious holiday. We will return on Saturday, March 30.

Championships Event Day 1B recap

Championships Event Day 1B turned up bigger numbers than the first starting day with 60 entries total. There were 38 players that pulled through the scheduled 8 rounds with Korea’s Gyeong Byeong Lee way ahead with his 331,700 stack.

During the last called hands of the tournament, Lee was already sporting the largest stack of over 230K then picked up two pots, one that exposed Eugene Co’s bluff bet, and the other that booted out William Ysmael. The hand against Ysmael was the meatier of the two. With betting at every stage, the board completed to 4 9 J 3 2. Ysmael moved all in and Lee snap-called. Both had a flush with Lee’s K 2 better than Ysmael’s Q 8.

Below are the top ten of the Day 1B by chip count:

Gyeong Byeong Lee – Korea 381,700

Mike Takayama – Philippines – 204,200

Registration will stay open until the start of Level 10. We will post the prize pool and payouts once we have the official tally.

Justin Worth wins the Super Deep Stack Turbo

Super Deep Stack Turbo Champion, Justin Worth

The Super Deep Stack brought in 122 entries for a prize pool of Php1,183,400. The event concluded just before midnight with Australia’s Justin Worth defeating Italy’s Sandro Bruni at the heads up round. Both players had about even stacks to kick off that final round. Bruni started inching higher until Worth delivered a bad beat that crippled the Italian.

The hand saw both players all in with Bruni A 7 and Worth A 5. The board came down A 8 Q 5 10 for two pair to Worth and the lead of nearly 10:1. Worth closed it down with his J 6 finding a pair on the board J 2 7 9 Q to defeat another A 7 from Bruni.

You can catch the Final 8 action in the APT Twitch or APT YouTube channels. You’ll witness how Worth dominated throughout eliminating 5 players to emerge victorious.

Czar Ian Marcos wins the Deep Stack Turbo

Deep Stack Turbo Champion, Czar Ian Marcos

The second side event wrapped up with Philippines’s Czar Ian Marcos outlasting the 99 entry field. The final six players were moved to the RFID feature table so make sure to check that out on the APT Twitch or APT YouTube channel. For a brief summary on how it ended, after the fall of China’s Junqiang Lyu in 4th place, the rail erupted with the locals jubilant that it was now an all-Filipino affair at three-handed.

Leading with his monstrous stack was Marcos who quickly eliminated John Clyde Tan with J 10 running well against A 9 on a board 2 3 Q 10 2. This left Marcos up against Grace Takayama.  Takayama moved all in on the first hand and won the blinds but on her second jam, she was called. Marcos J J, Takayama 10 9, the board dragged out 7 Q J for a little hope to the lady but the following 7 and 6 were no help and Marcos claimed the victory.
