The APT Philippines Championships 2018 saw two more trophies leave the awards table. Below are the festival’s latest winners:
Jingxiang Ong wins the MSW event
The MegaSportsWorld Deep Stack Turbo had players piling in with everyone eyeing the 500K Guaranteed prize pool. By the end of late registration, there were 124 entries strong to drive the prize pool past the guarantee to Php601,400. It took seven hours before the winner emerged and it was Singapore’s Jingxiang Ong who rose to victory. He earned the Php139,500 first place purse and the event trophy.
As soon as the freezeout stage began, players dropped like hot potatoes, among them was MSW Poker Ambassador, Anton Del Rosario. Other MSW special guests also joined him on the rail well before the money round.
As the event approached the bubble stage, Lester Edoc had a flurry of good hands. He completed a straight flush with his J♣ 3♣ on a board that ran 10♣ 9♣ 8♣ 7♣ 3♥ to eliminate a player. Immediately after, he proceeded to rail another with his K-J that improved to a full house; then he delivered the bubble with his 6♠ 4♠ straight at the flop defeating A♠ K♣.
Final 8
With the money flowing, the field went from 21 players to the Final 8 in lightning speed. The Final 8 was reached on a double elimination delivered by Wan Mei Lin, the lone lady warrior remaining. She railed Lumel Saporteza 10th and Edoc 9th.
The Final 8 were then moved to the RFID feature table. You can catch the swinging action at APT Twitch or APT YouTube. We also have highlights for you below.
Quick knockouts at the Final 8 with Zhu Jun taking 8th, Czar Ian Marcos out 7th, then Iori Yogo in 6th. After losing the battle against Stephen Nathan with 4-4 crushed by 10-10, lady Lin was eliminated by eventual winner Ong with K♣ Q♠ spiking a higher pair on the board to overtake her 5♥ 5♣.
Jean Philippe Lutz took 4th, followed by Joshua Yeomans in 3rd with his A♣ K♦ outdrawn by Ong’s Q♠ J♠ with a queen showing up on the turn. This led to the heads up round with Nathan ahead in chips. As in most cases, one big hand switched it up with Ong’s A-8 holding against K-10.
The final hand arrived. On a flop 4♦ J♥ 4♣ with a raised pot preflop initiated by Ong. Nathan moved all in with J♦ 7♣ and Ong snap called holding J♣ 4♥ full house. The turn 10♠ and river 5♠ completed the board and closed the night.
