CoinPoker High Rollers 2 attracts 136 entries; Gavin Flynn wins on a 3-way deal

It was just a week ago when we saw Gavin Flynn lift up a trophy at the APT Vietnam Ho Chi Minh Championships having won the series opener at Pro Poker Club. Earlier this afternoon, he was back under the spotlight, earning another victory, this time at one of the biggest buy-in events of the series, the CoinPoker High Rollers 2.

Gavin Flynn, CoinPoker High Rollers 2 winner

As the second highest buyin tournament of the festival, coming in at VND 43,000,000 a pop, the CoinPoker High Rollers 2 amassed a very healthy field of 136 entries for a juicy prize pool of VND 5,276,800,000. The event ran for three days with six players returning to the felt today. If you missed the final table action, no need to worry, you can watch it on APT Twitch and APT YouTube. We’ve also got a recap below.

Bubble round

Backtracking to yesterday’s Day 2 action, Flynn built up a massive stack that further grew after he railed CoinPoker High Rollers 1 champion, Huynh Tan Dung aka Pegasus, during the bubble round. With action folding around to small blind Flynn, he pushed with 2 4 and short-stacked Pegasus tank-called with K 6 risking his tournament life. Though Pegasus was ahead, the board landed 4 7 7 3 4 for a full house to Flynn.

With the money now ensured, the remaining 23 players quickly downsized to the final ten. Among the notable players eliminated were Iori Yogo (13th), Jae Wook Shin (14th), and Alex Lee (20th).

Another four eliminations followed before they bagged up. Han Min Cho fell in 10th place with A J unable to improve against Norbert Koh’s Q Q; Long Lam’s 5-5 was outdrawn by Piet Pape’s K-Q to finish in 9th place;  Flynn railed Tran Kim Dong with A-A over J-10; and Dang Van Hien ended Wei Cheng Xin in 7th place.

Final 6 players

Today’s final race completed in less than two hours. Dang was out first with J J losing to Pape’s Q J on a board running 6 8 Q 2 2. Dong Hyun Kim also fell to Pape with A 3 outdrawn by J 4 on a board of 9 4 J 10 2.

Piet Pape

To bring the field to three, Koh sent Bui Thanh Tuan packing with Q 10 besting 7 7 with a queen showing up on the river.

The game ended abruptly with the final three players agreeing on an ICM deal. Flynn had the largest stack to pocket a cool VND 914,680,000 and his second event trophy.
